DS obsessed with electrical outlets

I have all of my outlets covered with the outlet covers, but DS just loves to play with them anyway, he can't get the covers off, but I don't want him to get in a habit of playing with them anyway. I am constantly saying, no or danger and then redirecting him (by picking him up and moving him away from the area and giving him a new toy) and he crawls right back over there and does it again and again and again. Finally I gave up yesterday and let him play with it - it lasted about 30 seconds then he moved on - am I creating a bad habit now by letting him play there? Should I keep redirecting him away from it?

All you can do is just keep up the repetitiveness with the no and redirect. You can try and put some objects in the way so that he cant see them but for the most part just keep redirecting.

We went thru this with our girls and the dvd player around your DS's age. Finally DH and I realized that by telling them No constantly we were actually making it more appealing and fun for them. When we started ignoring it (they really couldn't hurt themselves), it became less appealing.

Mine STILL do this, but now they are able to take out the outlet covers. It stinks! Really, there is nothing more that I can do besides keep pulling them away from it ... Obviously I can't ignore it, because they literally try to stick their fat fingers in the socket!

Since yours can't get the plugs out, I would keep an eye on them, but try ignoring it. Maybe if they realize you don't care what they are doing, they will realize it's not all that fun anyway!

    Good luck!

As long as the outlets are childproofed, I seriously wouldn't even bother trying to discourage him. If anything, you may just make it more attractive with all that attention. He's not forming a habit - as he gets older, he'll get obsessed with other things.

I would agree with this!!! Keep them childproofed and keep one eye on him and eventually he is going to find something else (hopefully a little safer) to focus on. Our DD was obsessed with the VCR and DVD player for a while, after getting her fingers stuck in the VCR a couple of times, she no longer wants anything to do with it :)

All three of my kids loved the outlets, for maybe a week or two. I just covered them up and they eventually lost interest.

If they are safely covered, I would just ignore it. Won't be very interesting for long.
