DS has had pretty bad diahrrea since Saturday morning. He wakes up each morning with a leaky diaper filled with really runny/stinky poop! He has been running a slight fever on and off as well, but seems to be better now today. He also seems to be teething...could it be from his teeth coming in? He has no other symptoms. Should I take him into the doctor? I only have insurance through this Friday, so I would need to go now (my husband just started a new job and there is going to be a lag in covereage). What do you think?

ETA: He also has TERRIBLE diaper rash--his testicles and penis are BRIGHT red and super sore. I have been putting desetin on him...but it doesn't seem to help. He seems to be in a lot of discomfort from the rash!!!!!!!!!

i would take him in - as for the diaper rash, we use butt paste and vaseline...i've heard neosporin can be good, but if he has had it for more than 2 days,, def. take him in.

I'd also consider whether you've introduced any new foods lately. The bright red rash can be an allergy, as can diarrhea (although it wouldn't usually cause a fever...) Just a thought. Hope he feels better soon!

My girls get bright red from lots of yucky poops too. :( I ditto the diaper cream and vaseline. Keep him nice and lubed up to protect it all.

My girls had something similar back in the fall and we were told it was just a virus. But, since you are losing coverage on Friday, it certainly wouldn't hurt to call and maybe have him be seen. Good luck.

I'd take him in, too. It can't hurt.

As for the diaper rash, we've also used Aveeno oatmeal baths. It wasn't a miracle cure, but they were at least happy and it felt good while they were in the bath.
