Well since we are almost 2 y.o. I thought I would post here for some more advice. Max has been obsessed with taking his pants and then diaper off for about 6 weeks now. We have tried overalls and belted pants, but I am worried that this phase is not going to pass. He takes off his sleepers if we don't pin them, figured out how to get out of his overalls and is working on mastering the belt. We keep trying to tell him "Look mommy, daddy, etc. wear pants/shorts. Big boys keep their clothes on" but the minute you are not looking he is standing there naked. This then leads to Lily trying to undress, which she doesn't do on her own. Then more often than not we are cleaning up an "accident".

So do you guys have any ideas of what we can try. I am really worried because they are starting to outgrown their 2T clothes and 3T clothes are not very restrictive (i.e. lots of elastic waist bands). This is just getting so frustrating. I am sad to admit DH even put duct tape on his diaper tabs, so Max just pulled the diaper off like a pull-up. This kid is too smart for his own good...I worry about the future, lol.

No advice I'm afraid - just sympathy. We are going through it here, but he does it for basically two reasons. 1. he's had a poo or he doesn't like the way he pee filled diaper feels. After a poo, the diaper comes right off these days. You really have to catch him before the poo ends up all over the place. 2. He also does it as a form of protest when he's mad at me. "No you can't play in the fridge." results in a crying boys who pulls down his pants and diaper.
Do you think your boy is doing it because it's fun or for the reaction he gets from adults? Maybe if you can figure out his motivation you can re-direct him. For sleepers, I've heard of putting them on backwards with a pin.

    Good luck.

I would put onsies on backwards under overalls and tape on the diaper. Make sure the diaper is on tight so he can't pull it down over his hips (you might need a bigger size diaper to fasten it high enough for this to work). The onsie backwards puts the snaps in an awkward place and harder to get to. Try to stay completely unbiased about the whole thing, no reaction at all other than, "oh, let's put your clothes back on". Eventually they do grow out of it.

Yeah they grow out of the obsession eventually. I still catch Alice nekkid in the morning but at least she's leaving her diaper on. I figure that I sleep in the nude, she can too if she can get her clothes off.

I was just about to start this thread but thankfully you already have. My daughter is mostly doing it at night. I haven't corrected her, I just figured that "natural consequences" would work as she will realize she gets "cold" at night if she takes off her diaper and pants. NOPE. I havent' done the duct tape. I did get a long sleeved onesie (but I will try putting it on backwards) and that worked because she couldn't get the snaps. she was at least a bit warmer. It is just starting to get into our colder season and we dont have central heating so she will really start to notice the cold soon. I hope this phase is short.

Last night I figured if I was going to get up at night to a naked person I'd make it interesting for me too. So I've really LAYERED the last two nights. Tight leggings with short then underwear over top... onesie plus a tighter fitting shirt. Figured she might get tired taking off the clothes and fall asleep...
