Right away we are thinking it is a cavity and how can that be, we have only given them sugar a few times in their life starting a month ago and we brush their teeth 2 times a day every day(now going to be increased to 3). I am very upset about this. I just spoke to the pedi about it, she says that it could be a stain from the liquid vitamin they are on. They are going to look at it next time we go in and I will call our dentist (I am not going to bring him there though unless he really insistent upon it, he is a good guy with two small children, he would not steer us wrong) when he gets back from vacay. I fee like this is my fault and what if it is a cavity and what if it is hurting him. Has anyone else ever had this happen in such a young child?

I had the same thing when my boys where about your kids age. It ended up being stain from the liquid vitamins.

my friend had this happen to her daughter it was because she banged it and they had to pull it because it was damaged. I would call the dentist. Good luck

My best guess (have a little dental background) is that the stain is from the iron in the vitamins. Nothing to be concerned with. If however, the tooth itself is dark, it could be a nonvital tooth that has turned color from an injury.

    Good luck.

Emily had this and it was a stain from a vitamin....Cailyn never got it.

My friend's son had this too...it was from an injury and had to have it pulled.

So I say call the dentist to be sure. I did, and it was good to know what it was.

We had the same problem around 18 months from the Iron in the liquid vitamins -- all my son's teeth turned grey after 2 doses. Ped took them off the vitamins, but we also found a good Ped dentist. While the color change might not be permanent, according to the dentist, it can be an indication of other problems.

We had staining from Neosure. Went away after we stopped formula.
