DS climbed into DD's crib

So I'm not sure how long the kids were awake after their nap to be honest. Dh and I kinda crashed on the sofa and recliner after watching a show during their nap and they woke me up a bit before 4pm... we didn't have the monitor on (I know, bad parents lol).

I went to pick them up and I found DS in DD's crib... somehow they had put the cribs close together on one side and I guess he climbed out. Sigh. I put them one foot apart again but now I'm worried he's going to try again and get hurt. This is NOT a good week end to make the switch to twin beds. Dh is still sick with bronchitis/pneumonia, and it's the first day of AF for me, with the lovely cramps and PMS.

We have twin mattresses, the sheets are being washed as we speak... but I really don't know how to transition. We haven't had time to talk to them about it, and my kids HATE sleeping anywhere than in their cribs. And they always make a mess in their room, dump the drawers etc. I emptied the closet already, I just don't have the room to put their clothes elsewhere. There's no safe place to plug anything so we'll have to make do without monitor, and try to remember to charge their night lights every day as we won't be able to keep the chargers there either. We'll have to remove all the noisy toys and bins and I have no idea where to put them either (some will be put away in the basement I guess).

I'm seriously stressed out about this! We're going to see if he attempts it again this week end, and if not hopefully we can wait a bit longer... I just know it's going to be the end of naps too (separating them isn't an option right now because it would involve a lot of furniture moving and our inlaws are coming in 3 weeks for a couple days and the room we would have to move the guest room to is too cold in the Winter, and they'd make just way too much mess in the guest room or our bedroom if we let them sleep there).

    Any advice?

Ugh! I don't have any advice as we were going through this last week. Our boys were playing horsey on the crib rail. We took everything out of their room, put up a playyard around their dressers after screwing them to the wall.
We thought about crib tents, but we had toddler beds given to us so it was the cheaper option. Our boys would only sleep in their crib aswell so I was worried about the transition, especially where kiefer isn't as much of a sleeper as ryan.

Our house is trashed with the items from their room, we didn't really "talk up" big boy beds, but I am amzed how well they have done. They are great sleepers, so we kept our rituals and didn't freak out when they played a bit....we just had to go in a couple of times to remind them it was sleep time.

We put dog pillows on the floor around their cribs in case they climbed out before we could do the transition.

If you have a crib that has the adjustable side rail can you put that all the way down so if he climbs out he'll be closer to the floor?

It's so hard when they are ready for.these milestones before we are. Good luck...I hope he.forgets and maybe it was a one time thing!

No big advice. We had to clear everything out of their room too. One thing that we ended up doing was putting the monitor out in the hall next to the door and I could still hear everything. Good luck!

Can you move their cribs farther apart? Like one on one side of the room and the other on the other side?

No there is no way to move the cribs apart, there are two windows and a closet on the other side. But anyway, it's over, they both climbed out at bedtime so we had to empty the room at 10pm and set the twin mattresses on the floor (will probably do this for quite a while)... it took them over an hour to fall asleep... tomorrow we're taking the cribs down. I'm just really worried about naps...

Oh I'm sorry, that stinks. I know what you mean about naps, "I" need for my boys to take naps! Lol. I hope they work it out quickly and you have a smooth transition!

No real advice on the transition but wanted to let you know that even if they don't nap the first week of them being on the bigger mattresses don't give up. We did lose naps for a little while but I kept at it and they started taking them again when the newness wore off (I did separate them and put one in my bed when they were really bad but some days they both stayed in their own room and slept for naps).
