    Hi!

one of my boys has dry skin on his face and head. i'm not sure what to do. I don't bath them more than twice a week, and use natural soap with no drying agents. I use natural lotion that has no alcohol or other drying agents. It seems to be getting worse..

Any ideas what I can do?
    Thanks!

One of my girls got really dry skin at about 4 weeks, after some terrible acne. The doctor recommended that I either put Eucerine, Aquaphor or Lubriderm on twice a day. I used Eucerine because Aquaphor is greasy. It helped - however I think that it was something she just had to grow out of also. It didn't last too long (I don't remember exactly how long now - a week maybe 2?), but at the time it felt like it was taking forever! I have read about people trying to gently scrub the dry skin off the head during bath time with a washcloth. I washed her hair, and whatever came off, came off. I did not try to get it off. I also did not put any lotion on her head.

My doctor has said baths with NO soap and don't use lotion. All my kids have skin problems and we have found that after a bath you dab them...don't dry them off completely. Then put vasolene on the affected areas, its greasy but it works. This locks in the moisture. I do it two or three times a day when its really bad. Hope this helps.

My son had some dry patches when he was newborn. The midwife suggested olive oil and it seemed to work. I just rubbed a little bit into the dry spots a couple of times a day.

Aquaphor, or Vaseline works just as well. I lube my girl up before bed and then do lotion during the day.

I mix Aquaphor with the Aveno baby lotion. It works pretty well. Mine babies have always had a little bit of try skin. This seems to clear it up. The Aquaphor is like vaseline, its really thick.

I would recommend Aquaphor and/or Vaseline. Seems to help my son a lot. It also seems that his skin is drier in the winter time due to the heat. He had dry skin at birth and it has been drier the past few weeks with the heat on.

I bought a dry skin lotion this week end and it seems to work very well. I just put a tiny bit on DS cheeks.

We slather in Aquaphor and Eucerin. Works pretty well as does regular Vaseline.

My son has dry skin on his legs and his doctor prescribed Aquaphor. I use that and lotion on the dry spots. I also put baby oil in all of their bath water. That seems to help alot!

My DS has atopic dermatitis and we use a special neutral bath soap (given to us by the pedi) and Nivea cream on his body and face. DD´s skin is fine.

We bath them both every day and keep the baths to 5 mins tops and not too hot. Some days DS´s skin is bad & others not so bad. You could always try almond oil too. I used it when I was pregnant and it was great.

We don't use soap on their faces - just water. Aquafor or eucerin for the dry spots. And here at home our humidity is constant at about 80%. When we visit my mom in the desert though a humidifier is a must and makes a huge difference. The first time we went we didn't use one and we had a variety of problems - including dry skin. Also depending on your environment keep them covered up when you are out and about. I know wind can chap a baby really quickly as well.
