Dry Erase Markers are EVIL

Trent was naughty yesterday and pooped on the floor in the upstairs hall. He hasn't done that in quite a while and the toilet was maybe 15 feet away so I'm having a hard time believing he couldn't have made it (he had time to take off his pants, after all) but that's beside the point. I went to get the carpet shampoo machine and had to take a minute to refill the soap dispenser then haul it upstairs. When I got there, I found two little boys drawing on their feet with a blue dry erase marker. They'd also marked 4 spindles on the staircase and drawn a picture on the carpet. :icon_eek: The marker was on a white board in their room -- far out of reach -- but they discovered that slamming the door into the wall makes things like the marker fall down. I tried every stain removal techinque I found online as well as good old fashioned carpet soap and a scrub brush and it's NOT coming out of the carpet. It wiped right off of the spindles. Just in case you have some of these pens around the house, I'd recommend locking them up.

The good news is that the upstairs carpet is going to be replaced with our remodel project in another year.

:hug99: Wow what smarty pants you have!! As for dry erase markers, the only thing I've heard that really gets it off is nail polish remover with acetone, but I don't know that you'd want to use that your little boys' feet.

I have been amazed at what this stuff will get out. I have yet to have to test it with dry erase markers (and from the sounds of it, hope I never have to).

You can often find it at Target/Walmart or Walmart/Rite Aid. It's made with banana oil. I dilute it for most stuff, but when I have a really wicked stain I use it full strength.

    OOh- I've been there.

They use these in school now instead of chalk...DD has come home with it in her new winter coat a couple years back...never did get it out and got anew coat, again  .

Kind of ironic....Dry-erase markers wipe so easily off the board they were meant to be used with, and a few other non-porous surfaces such as glass..but on skin, walls, carpet, furniture,etc...they seem to be permanently etched in.

My mom said she has some of this and is bringing it over. I'll report back on my findings.

The irony has not escaped me. The spindles have gloss paint on them and it was sooo easy to wipe off. The walls wouldn't have fared so well so I guess I'm lucky they didn't do more damage than they did. I just never would have guessed. I banished Sharpies to the garage long ago but didn't know the dry erase marker in their room was just as bad. I don't care so much about it being on their skin -- it'll wear off eventually and the bottoms of their feet are already clear.

I should have taken a picture but I was completely focused on getting that stain out before it set. HA!
