One of my boys has really dry chapped skin on his face. I try to put lotion and Chapstick on but he doesn't like it and immediately wipes it off. I have tried to do it in his sleep and he still wipes it off. I have tried talking to him telling him that this will help his face not hurt. Also tried telling him not to touch his face and also ignoring it, he seems to do things more the more attention you bring to it. I am going to start running the humidifier in his room at night to see if that helps. Any other ideas?

Johnson's natural used to have a lotion stick that worked really well. Even if he wipes it off part of it has still sunk into the skin

I use aquafor or eucerin... it's kinda oily so they can't really wipe it off easily.

I have used A&D or Aquafor. I let him put it on his cheeks himself and wash his hands like a big boy!

Hi - the humidifier will help, and also you can try putting a little bit of baby oil right into his bath water...that can help if he doesn't have sensitive skin. Or try putting the lotion on right after bath when it soaks in faster.

Good luck...my nephew gets really chapped in the winter so I know how hard this can be. If worse comes to worse ask your Dr for suggestions too.

I would try something like Aquafor. My DD has to be lotioned multiple times a day with Vanicream for dry skin and eczema. It's super thick, but soaks in pretty quick so that if he tried to wipe it off it probably wouldn't work. It's a great lotion. Or you could try letting him use a lotion stick himself and see if that helps.

I like the humidifier idea. We are big Vaseline fans around here. Also when it gets really bad, you may want to use some hydrocortisone cream, to curb the itching and inflamation.

I would also recommend Aquaphor or Eucerin (not the lotion, but the thicker stuff that comes in the tub). They have both worked very well for us in the past.

Just make sure not to let your kids get hold of the aquafor tub... what a huge mess that stuff makes...

Thanks ladies - we do lotion them up right after baths I think right now we have a big tub of Cetaphil (sp). I also have let him put it on and sometimes that helps until he starts trying to eat the chapstick and it isnt anything that has a scent or taste to it just a Nutragena one that I really like. I am going to pick up some Aquaphor or Eucerin - I do recall those being heavier. Also going to try the baby oil in the bath. I have really dry skin so I know how bothersome it can be this time of year. It was getting so red and cracked since he wipes at his face and licks his lips that DH was able to put a little bit of Neosporin on it and rub it in really good.

You can try limiting baths to 2/3 times a week too.
