Dr's opinions on induction/scheduled c-section

Hey there ... so, I'm only 24 weeks along, have had a ridiculously stressful pregnancy with a ton of bleeding, two SCHs, and bedrest since 13 weeks ... so I'm FAR from "normal" in asking this.

My question is this: what is/are your doctor(s) saying about when you will be induced or scheduled for a C-section?

Over the course of the last three weeks, I've heard everything from 34-35 weeks (not sure if that was a guess at how long I will make it or an offer for an induction?) to 38 weeks. Probably because I see an OB as well as two different MFMs, LOL.

Anyway - in a perfect world, I would prefer to let nature take its course and have a vaginal delivery of these munchkins ... but nothing about this pregnancy has been even normal, much less "perfect." So I'm trying to prepare myself emotionally for a much more medical, planned event ... just no clue when that might be.

Anyone have any experience or thoughts? TIA! - Ginny (24w with - we think - fraternal twins, #3 and #4 for us!)

I had a funky pregnancy as well, and had a scheduled c-section at 31 weeks, 6 days.

I think it depends on how your babies' health and your health continues to progress. If all 3 of you are fine, there is no reason to induce you at 34-35 weeks. I hope you can go to 38 weeks. :) Good luck!

I had a 'normal; pregnancy up until 22w when I unexpectedly went in PTL. My Dr will not talk about scheduling a c-section for me until I get past 36w, which she doubts I'll do. She and I are grateful that I made it so far, but she will not talk about what may happen past the next 4w. She will only discuss an induction if there's something abnormal that rises from the u/s or the NSTs, which,Thank God, hasn't happened yet. I pray that I prove her wrong and need a scheduled c-section. :p

ACOG recommends that babies stay put if all is well until 39 wks. Other than that doc's just have to weigh whether there are more risks to babies being in the womb or out of the womb.

I wont be induced due to having a c-section with my DD but if we go into labor after 34 weeks they wont stop it. Our hospital will not schedule a c-section until 37 weeks (full term). Of course if there is an emergency or they need to come early thats not a problem but they wont set a date until after the 37th week. We are hoping for a VBAC this time. So I wont be allowed to go past 38 weeks either way. I just hope I go into labor on my own by then. Of course the longer the better but from everything I've read and my high risk OB has told me after 38 weeks they are better out then in since the placentas starts to age very fast with twins. I know the ideal time is 34-38 weeks with 35-36 weeks being the average.

My doctor first told me I would be induced at 38 weeks the he said 36 - 37 weeks. He is anticipating big babies due to my son's birth weight. He said a normal vaginal delivery as currently my Twin A is head down. I want a c-section as there is no guarantee that both babies can be delivered vaginally. But I am saving that argument closer to the date! Lol! I am hoping that they stay in there long enough to ensure that nothing goes wrong and they are both able to come home with me. From what I understand 38 weeks is the normal delivery time for twins.

My c-section was scheduled for 38 weeks and 1 day. I think we scheduled it when I was about 30 weeks with the idea that it was my goal to make it that far.
My water broke at home at 36 weeks 1 day and my boys were delived 3 hours later by c-section.

My pregnancy had almost no complications until the week I actually gave birth. At that point I was starting to show signs of pre-e, had severe swelling and was very uncomfortable in general. At my appointment the day before the boys were born (a Wednesday) my ob had made an appointment for a growth scan on Friday afternoon and an appointment to see him on Monday morning with the idea that my section would have been moved up to Monday afternoon depending on what happened between Wednesday and Monday. And obviously what happened is the boys decided they wanted OUT! and quite honestly I wanted them out too at that point :)

When we first found out we were expecting twins, my OB said, "We'll hope to make it until at least 34 weeks, and won't let you go past 37." As it turned out, I was induced at 37w5d, because the week before that, her husband had back surgery. She was the local twins' expert and I didn't want to go to someone else. I ended up having to be induced, after more than 2 months on bedrest for PTL.
