My twins are just over a year and I was wondering when you all dropped the morning nap? They are now at home with a nanny during the day but they will be going to all day daycare in the near future (could be as early as July or late as Oct). I would also like to get some freedom back to do things in the morning when we're together (weekends etc). We're pretty strict about keeping nap schedules.

How/when did you drop the am nap?

    Thanks.

We didn't drop it until about 16 months. I had tried it around 12/13 months and it just didn't work out for us.

Mine are still on 2 naps. Sometimes they will play in lieu of thier AM nap. I am going to cut it out in the next month or so and just make sure their PM nap starts a bit earlier. You can always give it a try and see if they seem ready. At that age, mine were not.

My guys are still doing 2 naps right now and at home with a nanny. They will be starting daycare in early September(16mos) and the daycare only does 1 nap. I'm not sure yet but I may start trying to drop it around 15mos or I may just wait until they start daycare.

We're definitely doing 2. I couldn't imagine how unhappy they would be if I tried to take it away. They sleep a good 1 1/2 hours during the morning and 1 1/2 in the afternoon.

Mine were forced to drop it on weekdays when they moved to the toddler room at daycare, at 13 months. I have no idea how they kept them awake all morning! We kept doing a morning nap on weekends (or at least a nap in the stroller) until about 16 months. Even now, we often go for walks in the mornings and they fall asleep in the stroller -- but if we happen to be doing something else, they do fine without the nap.

There was a discussion about this a few months ago, and the average age seemed to be 16-18 months or so.

We are still doing 2 naps as well (about 1 to 1 1/2 hour each). They wake up around 6am and are so tired by 10am, we can't drop the morning nap, yet.

I was wondering this too. Mine are 15 months and still taking 2 naps but they will be going to daycare in August (18 months). I'm kind of hoping they will drop it before then so that the majority of the time they are at daycare they are sleeping.

My girls are 15 months and we have recently dropped the morning nap. It's probably been about two weeks that they've been napping only in the afternoon. Right now they wake up around 7 (although the last couple of days it's been 8 for some reason), eat lunch at 11 or 11:30 and are down for their nap between 11:45 and 12. They sleep for 1.5 hours at least, but usually 2 hours. If they start to get cranky around 9:30 or 10 I give them a little snack or put them in the stroller and go for a walk.

I didn't do anything special to drop the morning nap. When I thought they were ready we just stopped doing it. I'm hoping in the next few weeks to get them to stay awake a little longer in the morning, so that they don't start their nap until 12:30 or 1.

Mine are still doing two naps also, they wake at 6:15 by 10am they are tired they sleep 1.5hrs. and at 3pm they go up for another 1 to 1.5 hrs. bed at 7:30. I couldn't imagine trying to drop one yet they sleep pretty well, I am home with them so I don't have to worry about daycare which makes a difference in that I don't have to worry about naps.

15 months here and we are still doing 2 naps. I do plan to drop the morning nap sometime in August before my older DD starts back to school because it is getting too hard to try and squeeze 2 naps in during her school day (we live close to the school so I have to get her to/from school, no bus for her to ride).

I would love to drop ours but the kids just aren't having it. I tried a couple of days and I could see that they just weren't ready. I figure they'll let me know.

My girls were forced to one nap during the week at daycare. We had to enroll them in a regular daycare center where they only nap from 11:30 to 2:00pm or so. We haven't mastered the one nap on the weekends yet. It is really hard for us to keep them awake (and happy) until after lunch. I think they can do it at daycare because they keep them so busy.

Thanks ladies. Our nanny quit this week and one of the options is sending them to daycare now at 13 months instead of waiting until 17 months as we planned. I really don't want to drop the am nap - they're still so little. I'm torn about which way to go - I have 2.5 weeks to work it out. Yikes.

We dropped to one nap a little around 19 months. I tried before but they just weren't ready, and it was very difficult. When I tried again at 19 months, the transition went very well... so I guess I was trying to force it on them too early! LOL!

Just to add, re: daycare, although I would not have dropped a nap that early if it had been up to me, it didn't really seem to bother them. Their night sleep stayed the same and they were not especially cranky in the evenings.
