Once you started dropping bottles, how long did it take you to eliminate them altogether?

Up until Saturday, my girls were still on four bottles a day. On Sat. we dropped the two middle-of-the-day bottles. So they only get a morning bottle and a bedtime bottle now. They seem to be doing well. If things continue to go well for the next 2-3 days, I am planning to drop the morning bottle. If that goes well for several days in a row, I'm considering dropping the night time bottle as well. Am I going too fast?

We started at a year and dropped the two mid-day bottles (lunch and snack) and then by 15 months we were done and had dropped morning and bedtime.

I don't think so, I think if they are doing well without them, then keep up the good work!

considering mine had formula in bottles one night, and milk in sippies the next morning, I can't say you are going too fast. What ever you feel comfortable with is good.

So you dropped all bottles at the same time...cold-turkey?

I did the same thing as Sharon. We went from giving bottles to sippy cups the next day. I think what you are doing is fine. If they aren't having a problem with it then you are good.

We continued to give them a bottle before bed for a couple weeks after switching to milk. Now they get milk in the morning when they get up along with some cheerios or puffs before going to daycare where they eat breakfast. They get milk with supper and no more night bottle after that. They have handled it well. Good luck!

I think I dropped all their bottles over a week and half. If they seem fine with it I say go for it.

We finally got the boys off bottles for good a few weeks ago. We transitioned slowly rather than going cold turkey. They still like their milk warmed up in their sippy cups though!

mine were getting all beverages (milk and formula) in their sippy cups by the time they were a year save for one lone bottle in the afternoon - and they gave that up on their own at 13 months...

I never did a "bedtime bottle" once they were eating 3 solid meals a day...

I too did bottles one day, sippies the next (i had been giving them sippies with meals since they started table food). For the first few days, I am not sure how much liquid they had but it was enough. Anyway, after all my worry, they never looked back. So too fast? Nope. As long as they are happy.

We did away with bottles cold turkey here as well. My girls were very attached to their bottles, and if I tried to drop one they would just hold out until I would give them one. So one day I just took them all away. Their fluid intake dropped the first couple of days, but after they realized I wasn't going to give them a bottle they gave in and started using the sippy very efficiently. GL with the transition!

For us, the only one that was difficult was the a.m. bottle! We got rid of all the others right at their first birthday-- within 2-3 days. The morning one took about 2 weeks. I would offer a sippy- they'd throw a fit-- I'd poor it in a bottle! After 2 weeks, I didn't wanna play this game anymore and none of us looked back!
    Good luck-

We did cold turkey with both. My dd was able to get off bottles at 13 months and my ds at 18 months. :good:
