So my DH wants to go visit his folks in South Carolina, which is a 12 hour drive for us on a good day, pre babies! We're going to leave Friday night around bedtime and drive through the night. It's going to be tricky; we live in New York State near one of the lakes and their predicting heavy snow!

Anyhow, our twins are just over 10 months and we have a two year old as well. Are we crazy for contemplating a night drive rather than during the daytime? Does it make more sense to do it this way? Anyone have any experience with this?
I can't wait to get to warmer, sunny weather down South, but I am dreading this drive.
    Thanks!

I'm looking forward to hearing what some BTDT moms have to say since we will being doing an 18 hour with our boys in May.

I know when I used to help my aunt with my little cousins we drove through the night going to Florida and the kids were 1.5, 4 and 7 and it worked well because they slept almost the whole time.

Glad we're not the only ones doing this! We're only going for a short time, otherwise we would probably split it up.
I'll let you know how it went when we return. :p

I think its a GREAT idea to drive at night, specially if their sleeping thru the night. We drove 9 hrs up north when my girls were only 4months,we did have to stop once or twice but it was much easier at night than on the way home. GL and Safe travels~

We took about a 12-hour trip around Thanksgiving but stayed at a hotel half way there. The girls we getting a bit unbearable toward the end, but everyone managed. It helps to have plenty of room, if possible.

Lots of people swear by it. I think DH and I are too old to try it now :D . We like to be in bed at bedtime, and I'm afraid we'd fall asleep at the wheel.

If I tried it, I'd try to be prepared to make an emergency hotel swap -- have a bag with a change and a toothbrush for everyone, in case you decide you have to stop.

We just did a 24 hour drive, over two days. We did all the driving during the day and stayed the night in a hotel. If you think they will sleep through the night, I would try driving most of it at night. I know our experience was pretty bad and would hate for that to happen to you.
