drinking habits (DS, not me) and STTN

It took my son Michael 16 months to consistently STTN, then we took away his pacifier at 18 months and the past 6 weeks have been horrible again. He's up once a night, sometime between 1 and 5am, and usually asks for a drink. After he drinks (sometimes an oz, sometimes 6oz) he needs a cuddle then I can put him back down and he sleeps to morning. I'm looking for some insight, but will probably resort to CIO again this weekend.

I understand being thirsty, but how do you leave a sippy cup in a crib (they ALL leak) and would he even be able to find it?

He doesn't drink a lot during the day and takes small sips every half hour, unlike his brother who will drain a cup and be fine for hours. How can I get him to increase his fluid intake during the day?

    Thanks!

I leave sippies in the bed still for my two. I use the playtex cups and have never had an issue. I've had to replace the valves once, but that was a pre-emptive replacement, not a replacement because they're leaking.

We leave a cup of water in each bed every night and we use the munchkin straw cups. The never leak just so long as the rubber straw part is on right. Good luck!

We also leave water in the crib. We use the Nuby soft spout cups and have never had a leak. They do a surprisingly good job at finding it in the dark!
