Dressy or casual for 1st birthday

My girls are turning one next weekend and I'm trying to decide what they should wear. My mom bought them these really cute dressy dresses from Target last week, and I'm thinking about dressing them up for the party. They are machine washable, so I'm sure the cake will come out if I wash them right away. Anyone else going dressy?

Our girls turn 1 on 2/13, but party is on 2/17.

We are going in between - I think..... We have dress options, but I'm thinking of using those for pictures. Which reminds me, I should schedule an appt.

I have these velveteen pants and cute tops from Carters. Sorda dressy, but practical.

anyway, they only turn 1 once, dress them however you want!

 

My daughters will be one in exactly one month from today. I think I am going to go somewhere in between. We are going to the mall week after next to find them an outfit. I want something comfortable, but a little on the dressy side too.

 

We're going casual, but my family's always been on the casual side. Jeans with a white onesie that has a big red heart on it and they say "miracle babies". That's what they are to DH and I - miracle babies.

For pics we'll wear that outfit and I also want one with them in just their diapers in the washtub. Sears wouldn't do that pose/prop when they were 6 months because they weren't sitting on their own yet, and I definitely want that pose.

I say dress them how you want. They only have one first birthday.

 

Mine are going to be casual. I ordered matching shirts that say "Happy Birthday to Us! We're one!" (one pink/one blue) with a cake and candle on it.

We are just having family over. If I hadn't ordered the shirts I would probably go somewhere in between. Khakis for him and a casual dress for her.

 

Our party is tomorrow and we are going casual. Emilie will be in a dress, but it's not a dressy dress. Trevor will be in a shirt and pants or overalls.

I think the dressy dresses will look cute though. If they are easy to wash, go for it.

 

We went dressy and just made sure to cover them up good when they ate their cake. I have 3 girls and love dressing them up! I know some people will feed them their cake in their diapers Happy early B'day to your girls!!

 

I can't wait for my girls to eat their first birthday cake! I think I would put the girls in dresses, then take the dresses off or cover them up when it comes time to eat the cake.
