Perhaps this question has been answered already, but I can't remember off the top of my head. We have about 4 or 5 coupons for Dreft. I haven't bought any yet and when I asked my mother she said it wasn't necessary. Granted the last time she washed baby clothes was 22 years ago, so things may have changed. I wanted to know if I should get and is it better to use for the baby clothes?

I used it in the beginning. Maybe I bought it...once? Seriously. Target has one that is just like Dreft, smells the same etc... I personally wouldn't waste your money and use something else that is cheaper(but probably free and clear of smells, etc...). Now that the boys are older, I mix it up between Target's brand of dreft and Tide.

When I had my first child I thought I had to by Dreft detergent but it is very expensive. I started to by the Target brand of baby detergent for the first six months. After that I just used fragrance free detergent. All free and clear is good.

I second the All Free and Clear. Its like $4 a bottle and we have had no reactions to it. And my babies are super sensitive to everything. Don't waste your money on dreft. :)

I bought it a few times with my son because my mom told me to, but after a few months I just started using regular detergent and it was fine, actually better at getting the stains out.

Ps. also the "baby water" is a waste of money, a friend of mine will only use it and I think its silly she doesnt have the extra money to throw around with two infants yet will spend an extra $2 a gallon for this water with an infants picture on the front. I used regular spring water and it didnt do any harm...LOL

Dreft is actually full of fragrances and other things that can be bad for newborn baby skin. You'd be better off getting an off brand Free&Clear detergent. Dreft is not hypoallergenic and if your baby is sensitive to perfumes, it can aggravate it.

I never used any such product, just the free and clear detergent at costco. It's great and perfect for everyone's clothes. I wouldn't waste the money.

We actually have never used any of those baby brands. I usually just buy Purex the one in the light green bottle that is good for the environment as they say.. but it is natural detergent and works great for our family.

I bought one bottle with my son and didn't even finish it up. I use arm and hammer free for sensitive skin already because of my skin issues so that's what I'm washing all the baby clothes in.

We have never used any separate detergent for any of our kids. I buy whatever's on sale, or whatever Sam's happens to have. If any of us had sensitive skin then I would buy something different, but regular scented/nonscented, dye-free/full of dye detergent has always worked for us.

I've never used Dreft or any other baby type detergent. We usually use the Costco brand or Tide for everyone's clothes and it's been fine. We don't have sensitive skin though.

14. I use All Free and Clear for the babies clothes, blankies and towels. It has no perfumes and no dyes. Great for sensitive skin and babies. Don't waste your $ on Dreft.

I used Dreft for a few months for my first baby...never again...
There are some babies who will need it, but not many!

I actually used the detergent that I used on my clothing. I got lucky and my son never had problems with it! My mother tried pushing me into Dreft but I found that more and more of my friends with children just used their regular detergent, and that it was cheaper just to use what they were using all along. But... you never know, maybe try one piece of clothing with regular detergent and see how you little one's skin responds. Good luck!!

I agree! Dreft is a waste of money.

Dreft stinks. Literally. I use "free and clear", and have for all of my kids (I have four). I can recommend Downey free for fabric softener too!

I bought dreft once, wow, even with the coupon it's still a hefty price tag. Ever since I have been using Baby All, but after this jug I think we'll just use our detergent.

hey guys thanks for the info, and thanks to the poster for posting, ive been wondering this, but kept forgetting to ask. i just figured we'd try any hypoallergenic detergent and no softener since they tend to reduce the level of flame retardence.
