Ok, so I'm 33 weeks this week and yes, I've gained 40lbs. So my DR says to me...."Oh, you poor thing, your stomach is going to be TRASHED when this is done, you are just so big"!
I was a bit taken aback by that! It's like...well, yeah, there ARE two in there, thank you very much! I already feel bad enough becuase I found some stretch marks a couple weeks ago. So, it kind of ruined my day <_<

Other than that, both babies WERE head down and she said that it seems like one of them is now breech...great <_< But, the good news ( I guess) is that my cervix is totally closed. I also had a NST that went really well. So all that is good. Next week I do have a growth U/S so I hopefully will see for sure what postition the babies are.

I still can't belive that the DR. said that though...........

Wow, I can't believe your Dr. said that to you, not a very professional (not to mention mean) thing to say.

Good news about everything else though. :clapping:

Gotta love those great appointments well aside from that comment. Don't worry my stomach isn't perfect but it definitely isn't trashed and I gained 90lbs!

    that was so RUDE!!

when I was 30 wks along I saw a new dr in the practice who didn't bother reading my chart - she told me to lay off the bon bons!!?? I told her that I was having 2 - she had NO clue! I never saw her again!!

I was HUGE! my girls were 6.9 and 6.8 and we went to 38 weeks 4 days so you can imagine that I was HUGE - well right after the girls were born my stomach was awful - it really flapped in the wind!! well 2 weeks later after the swelling and what not went down it was fine - now 9 months later I do have a little extra "twin skin" but not too bad - I look a lot better than a friend of mine who had a singleton right around the same time the twins were born -
and I was much larger than she was!
so don't worry about it - your stomach will recover - you are having twins - and 40 pounds is not bad!!

in my experience I have noticed that the female docs are way more inconsiderate than the males. I had a female doc give me a pap when I was less than 20 weeks. I had an enormous amount of leukkorea(sp?) and was already self aware of it. Anyway she took one look down there and bluntly let out a LOUD "WHOA!". Nothing like having your feet in the stirrups and hearing something like that.

Your doctor has to be a man, huh? They just always know when to put the foot in their mouths..

How rude!!! What possible purpose can a comment like that serve!!! I guess it's not just people off the street who are thoughtless!!!

I am so sorry your doctor said that! How shocking and rude. It's hard enough getting the unsolicited comments from strangers but you would think a medical professional would have more common sense and tact than that. 40 lbs is not a lot and you're obviously doing what is best for your babies ... it sounds like they're both doing great, which is the MOST important thing. So sorry your doctor made that unwarranted and senseless comment!

what a jerk. i've gained over 50 and my peri hasn't said anything - mostly because we're grateful they're alive after the trouble they've been through - do you think i even care how much i gain? neither does our peri - we're doing something right - there's healthy babies in there. i wish they'd put it in perspective, you know?

that was kind of funny. I don't think the Dr. ment it in a mean way, just in a wow, your body is able to hold two babies, it will never be the same, sort of way. Its just reality. And a "few" stretch marks...geez... i wish. I look like someone drew on me with a red magic marker. I am proud of my stretch marks, it shows how much work I am putting into being a mommy.

Just ignore the comment if it bothers you and be happy everything else is going great!! :yahoo:

I may be a really nasty person, but I would have told her to kiss my rear! How rude!

That was a horrid comment but take heart... I had my first child and gained 87 lbs. I lost it all easily and quickly without even working at it. I gained 75+ (I quit getting on the scale) with my second, 12 years later, and did the same. I do not have horrible stretch marks, although I do have them (they don't tan btw - I live in SoCal :)) I average 115 when I am not pregnant. Now I am pregnant with the twins and I am not worried one little bit about weight gain (the crane is standing by to get me in and out of bed!). My mother and my sister both had the same "unusually high" weigh gain, we are wider than we are tall when pregnant. It's all good. I ate a cheesecake for breakfast this morning (just kidding, but I did have a slice :))

Your body does what it needs to do to sustain you and your babies.

That is surprising coming from a doctor.

I've been surprised at the reaction of my coworkers. Everyone keeps saying things like "wow, you're huge!". I have another coworker who asks me to stand up everyday as she passes my desk so that she can see how I've gotten bigger overnight.

Does everyone else have similar bombardments? I think I've been a little too quick to brush it off or play along in good humor. Does anyone have any advice on how to deal? I would like to assert myself without being witchy.

Of course, I'm on bedrest now, so this may not be much of an issue anymore. :)

i'm glad your u/s went good besides the Dr.s comment.... i hate to put men and women in "stereotypes" but i left my first ob when she gave me a lecture about sleeping with boyfriend when i was in college (who, by the way, has now been my husband for 13 years). But it "scared me" towards female MDs (even though i know i should evolve... i hear your story... and think… maybe not).

That was very rude and unprofessional of the doc to say...great job doc they obviously know how to keep the stress levels down!! if i were u i would not let that slide again the next time they want to smart at the mouth make sure u have a smart *** comeback.

Thank you all for your kind and understanding replies!

Maybe she didn't mean it to be rude but still....she IS a DR and I thought that was not a very good bedside manor. Obviously I realize my body will never be the same again, and I'm ok with that...in fact, I'm proud to be carrying twins and to have made it this far and I'm glad that they are getting bigger and healthy even if it means stretching me out. :icon_eek:  I'm ok with that! I just didn't need that from the Dr who is suppose to reassure me that everything is good and who, in my opinion should complement me on getting bigger & being healthy instead of making me feel bad about it! It makes me wonder what kind of comments the Dr may make at delivery time  It's one thing if it were some ignorant stranger making these comments but a Dr...GEESH!

Anyway, thanks to all who had kind words for me :love0028:

What! I'm sure you look great. Tell her to tell you more about it when HER body is sustaining two other lives :p .

    That's so rude!

And possibly untrue - i gained over 40lbs, had the babies at 34w1d, and have my old stomach back, though my inability to find time to go to the gym means I'm a bit softer than before. No big deal, for now.

Regardless of what your belly looks like afterwards, you've been blessed!

Wow! How insensitive. I think I'd be in tears. Maybe she's jealous of another body part you have that is amazing. I find women can say mean things like that when they feel competitive with someone. I'm sure you'll snap back to your former glory eventually. A few stretch marks isn't bad at all when you think about the big picture.
