    thanks for the birthday wishes!

I don't have any photos saved on this computer, but you can see some good ones on our website: www.morrisweb.ca. The older 'photo albums' there have some pictures of the twins when they were small.

It's been a wild year - the babies were born at 38 weeks, by VBAC. Eli weighed 6lb 11oz, and Will was 7lb 5oz. They came home with me from the hospital, and both took really well to breastfeeding - I'd successfully nursed my older daughter for 19 months, so I was pretty confident with this. The boys looked fairly distinct at first, but as they grew (and they grew fast!) they started looking more & more alike. At 4.5 months or so, we did the mail-in DNA test, and it turned out they are identical. They've hit most of their milestones within a few days of each other (rolling, crawling, etc) with the big exception being teeth - William got his 1st teeth 3 weeks before Elijah had any, and their teeth came in with totally different patterns.

They shared a crib until they were 8 months old, and they were great sleepers until 4.5 months, when they both had croup, which was a HORRIBLE experience - we had to visit the emergency room in the middle of the night to get steroids. They took a few weeks to recover, and their nighttime sleeping is still not great. Other than some colds (with a big sister at preschool, these were inevitable!) and 1 ear infection as Elijah got his 1st teeth, they've been very healthy all year.

We had some upheaval this year, including selling our house and moving across the country (from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Montreal) so my husband could start grad school. The boys are great eaters and are still nursing, and now that my year of maternity leave is up, they'll be starting daycare at the beginning of November. Fortunately our province subsidises daycare, so we only have to pay $7/day, so I can go back to work, at least part-time. The boys are not walking but they're cruising, and I'm sure they'll be taking their 1st steps anytime. No words yet, and I'm a little worried their language may be delayed since they've watched a LOT of Baby Einstein movies (really the only way we could cook, clean, etc), plus their daycare will be in French. They're both bright, happy guys - they weigh about 24 lb each, and they're hard for most people to tell apart (although not for me, or their dad).

For their first birthday, we kept things pretty simple - they had some chocolate cake at dinner (and smeared it all over themselves, of course) and my parents came down for the weekend to spend time with us all. We also went out to the Montreal Biodome (kind of like a zoo crossed with a greenhouse) which was a big hit with the boys, and especially with our daughter.

I've appreciated the support I've had here on Twinstuff - it honestly takes another parent of twins to appreciate the experience of having & raising twins, from both good & bad perspectives!
