For those of you who put covers on the doorknobs to keep them in or out of rooms, how long did they work? Were they more hassle than they were worth or the best invention ever? The boys have gotten very good at knobs now and turning the little lock in the middle. I keep the keys on the door trim above the door so I'm not really worried about them locking themselves in. It's more that we didn't childproof every room and closet in the house.

EXTREMELY useful! I have them on every door in the house including the front door. They can open all the doors... when those knobs are on, they can't! They are so easy to use, you just squeeze the gray buttons and turn the knob.

I agree that they are useful. I don't even notice them anymore. Squeezing the buttons is just second nature. And I don't have to worry about them opening doors.

We have one on our front door and one on our bedroom door. I find them useful. The girls are now 4-1/2 and they can't open them (some adults that come to our house can't either actually). If you get them and your boys figure them our I also recommend putting a hook and eye up high on the door to keep them out of places they shouldn't be. I have one on my screen door so they can't get out.

I think they are useful. We have one on our pantry door and basement door from when my oldest DD was little. She figured out how to open them around age 4, but we still kept them on. So now they are already on for the twins. It is like second nature opening them once you get used to them.

I would highly recommend them. They work great for us. My kids haven't figured them out yet, and they are trying. It keeps them out of rooms I don't want them going into and also keeps them in an area that I don't want them to leave.

Ditto. My boys found them to be VERY interesting -- they were an enticement to go to the door and open it. I tried a few different kinds. They have figured out EVERY single safety item with the exception of the plugs covers that lock into place. They can't figure those out for the life of them -- and neither can I.

I find the hook and eye to be very useful...you put them high up and the kids just can't reach them. It's that simple. I have them on almost every door in my house!

Thanks for your responses! I'm thinking the hook & eye plan is our winner. We have flip locks on the exit doors because we have lever handles and they were able to open those long ago. Don't know why it didn't occur to me to just do the same basic thing on the rest of the problem doors...
