What do you all do about your door knobs? I put those Safety 1st covers on, but one of my 2-year olds has figured out if she squeezes and turns, the door will open. I've looked at Target, Toys R Us and Home Depot for an alternative, but don't find anything. What do you all do?

    Thank you!

    Best,
    Mia

Well my boys figured out how to break them apart on the one in their room. At one point they locked themselves in but didn't know how to unlock so I had to take apart the lock on their door. When I put it back together I just made sure the lock was on the outside of the door. Now I just lock them in there (safer than having them roam around at night). The ones on the other doors (couple of closets and the outside of DD's room) they haven't really had interest in.

Our girls figured themnout, too. I got these alarms that you attatch to your door. The alarm will sound if the door is opende. We have this on the front door so they can't go outside. Other than that, we had to REALLY child proof, and they still get into everything, anyway! [IMG]

Wow! Mine are four and they still haven't figured out how to open the doors that have the covers on them. I would put a hook and eye high up on the door.

Our house is soo old that none of the doors meet right so the knob covers wouldn't work, I put in a bunch of hook and eyes. I don't need any of them anymore but they worked perfectly for us!

Our DS had figured out almost every safety device we have. He can open doors with the knob covers, he can open cabinet door latches (the kind you have put one finger inside and push down and then pull open), he can unlock safety gates, etc. As far as doors go, we also have hook and eyes - up high. Good luck... it's amazing the "skills" they learn!!

Oh i love the idea of turned the door knobs around. My boys have not figured out the covers YET. I have several diff kinds from when dd was little and new ones. There is one kind I cannot even use easily. And the hook and eyes work great too. I have those on my entertainment center to keep them out of the stereo and on the basement door. [IMG]

I did the exact same thing as Jenn, our door knobs are turned around. Be sure to leave a key in the room or something to pick the door knob with because they will lock you in there.

[IMG] I just pictured my DH having that happen to him, he does morning baby duty and takes them to daycare. And lets just say he does not deal with a crisis well at all.... [IMG] [IMG]

I was going to suggest having a key or something to open the door with. My Mom turned the knob for my brother and we got locked in his room twice. Once she called to the school bus stop for a kid to come open the door and the second time she climbed out the window (good thing we lived in a ranch house). One of the times he was on the other side of the door, while we were in the bedroom. Opps
