I know as I write it, it sounds idiotic, but we have an electric ignition gas stove -- there is no pilot light. We have put tons of things on the stove (6 burner stove and never had a problem.) On Thursday after the kids' baths, my DH put the bathtub on the stove and somehow between 6:30am and 7am Friday morning it caught on fire and now we have a major clean up on our hands. This means that the stovetop had to throw a spark and their had to be gas (which means the stove must have had a slow gas leak). Fortunately, no one was hurt. The twins and I got out of the house along with the dog, and the fire was contained to the stovetop/bathtub and was out before the fire department arrived. But it has made a mess of the house!

We used to have a fire extinguisher but when we moved the moving company wouldn't ship it so we left it behind. I'm buying another of those. The fire alarm was going off but I couldn't hear it in the back of the house -- so we're going to get another annunciator for the alarm in the back of the house. The alarm company didn't call in the alarm...so I have to figure out what went wrong there!

Anyway, moral of the story, NOTHING on the stove, EVER!

    Sotto :(

Glad you are all ok and that the damage was not extensive. Some of life's best lessons are those close calls! :pardon:

Wow. I'm so glad everyone is fine. As a victim of a fully totalling house fire I am really afraid of fire. I know the devastation and how easy it can happen. Don't beat yourself up.
