We'll we've hit another stage. Everytime I laugh at the girls, especially when they are tired, they scream, "Don't Laugh at me" I keep telling them I just think they are cute, but they definitely don't buy that...but it's true. Now, even when I dress them for school, if they don't like something they say, "Everyone will laugh at me" I have no clue where they are getting this and this whole thing is foreign to me because my son couldn't have given a flip about what he wore to school or anything else for that matter. I just wonder how long this will last.

Luke & Lila are like this too. They also get mad at me if they say or do something really cute & I tell someone else about it. They stick their hands over their ears & yell NOOOOO! So, I have had to start making sure I don't talk about them in front of them. I guess they get embarrassed.

My kids are soooo concerned about what their friends at school think. They had new shoes this morning and all they could say was "I hope my friends love my new shoes!" I kept saying, "What's important is whether you love them," and finally Amy said, "Mommy, why do you keep saying that??"

I don't think they really, truly understand the idea of making fun of someone (in a mean way) at this age, but they are so self-conscious sometimes that, even if you're laughing at them because they're really being funny, it just makes them uncomfortable. (And god forbid you laugh at them when they're mad! If I can't help it, I try to turn my head away.)

Of course, then they'll also do things like putting on a "show" in the living room and demanding that you watch them for every single second, then clap at the end. They're only self-conscious if they don't WANT you to watch them.

There also may be something going on at your kids' school where they all laugh at each other and then people get mad -- you never know what weird fads are making the rounds. The other afternoon, when I showed up, all the boys were taking turns whispering "My mommy has boobies!" and then cracking up. :rotflmbo:

We already have a bit of that here. One of them will fart (and I mean a really enormous trucker fart you can't imagine coming from such a tiny body) and then tell me, "Don't laugh at my fart!"

It's so funny to see how they are developing and the crazy things that they are self-conscious about and then other things they can't give a flip about that bother me. They confuse me :D
