I've been in the hospital for the last 24 hours getting IV fluids and trying to get my contractions to slow down. I had about 6 an hour for 2 hours so I called and they told me to come in. It took about 12 hours of fluids for the contractions to slow down and they got up to about every two minutes for a while. Finally, about 1 am they started slowing and I slept a few hours. Now they are back to normal, for me which is about every 30 min. My cervix and the babies look fine, so the only thing they can figure is dehydration. I went to the pool Saturday, with permission from my doctor, but didn't use enough sunscreen and burned my chest and my belly. I think the people here think I am retarded, but I really did use spf 50 and I just suck at applying it. It was the spray-on kind. So I am kicking myself for not being more careful and liberal with my suncreen... I am not going to attempt the pool again until next summer.

Wow. Im soo sorry that a day at the pool caused you to be admitted to the hospital. :(
Did they say for sure it was the sunburn that caused the contractions? How do they know?

Ive never been preggo in the hot months so, I guess in that way Im lucky. ;)

I hope you get to go home soon, if not already. . .and stay cool!

When you apply it do more than just spray it. Rub it into your skin once you spray it on.

I've found that pregnancy has made me even more light sensitive some days. I no longer use sunscreens but sunblocks with spf of 60 or better and they spray on. Check the UV forcast too for that day if you go out on websites like the weather channel.

Don't feel foolish or bad cause it happens to the best of us.

Heck my mom's a nurse and we both forgot about my light sensitivity. I paid for a lovely day of fishing on the pond for approx a week and half. I too used the spray on sunblock but guess it wasn't enough! Lots of water immediately and continuously for a week to insure I was plenty hydrated while I healed. So, I blew my hall pass to play outside in my flower gardens. :D

I am really curious as to the relation to the contractions with the sunburn. Was it the dehydration that brought them on?

Yup. I spent a couple hours sitting outside with sunscreen and clothing on and burnt my thighs so badly they itched for two weeks and peeled three weeks later! I'm olive skinned and don't tend to burn normally. We are clearly much more sensitive these days...

Sorry you had to be hospitalized, but totally not your fault! Glad you're better.

I'm awful at applying the spray stuff too. Sadly, I use the same sunscreen as my kids and they are always fine, while I look like a leopard with burned spots all over me. Sigh. I wouldn't give up the pool, but maybe just not for a long time. I swam a lot the summer I was preggo and it really helped my back pain. Big (gentle) hugs! Hope you feel better soon!

Geez! Glad you are ok and babies are ok. I don't blame you for staying out of the sun. I haven't burned this year but even with using sunblock I have gotten way darker than normal. Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks everyone! I finally got home a few hours ago and took a much needed shower and nap. I saw 3 residents and 2 doctors throughout my 26 hours there and all of them said it could have just been dehydration and/or my uterus being so distended that it thinks it should start contracting for labor. I was pumped full of fluids by yesterday afternoon when the contractions were getting to 2 minutes apart, so I am not sure if it just took my body a while to adjust to the fluids, or my uterus was just being irritated. I am just going to have to stay on bedrest. I see my regular OB tomorrow, so we will see what he says.

After the scare this weekend, everyone is fine. Basically if my doctor was on-call he would have just told me to go home, drink fluids, and rest. Probably being in the hospital with the stress and starvation only made them worse.
Baby Girl is 2 lbs 6 oz and Baby Boy is 2 lbs 3 oz. We got to see them in 3D for the first time too and they are adorable.
