I'm sick of trying to discourage this. Is it really gross enough for all the effort I put in to trying I stop it??

They love to drink the bath water!

    What can I do?

I let them drink to their heart's content. :pardon: I agree it's pretty gross but, for me, not worth the effort to stop it. Now that they're older I'm having some success with leaving cups of fresh water on the side of the tub for them to drink if they get thirsty.

It's not going to kill them if that's what you are asking ;) However, I just keep saying "Ewww that's yucky, no no no" and take away the cup they are using (or whatever they are using). If they do it again with another cup, I'll take it away too. Eventually they'll either stop, or run out of cups ;)

Do they play with cups when bathing? I would replace them with bath toys. My girl used to drink bath water. We have toy story bath toys and they pick which toys they want to take to bath. They are just too busy playing so forget about the water. Problem solved! Gl!

My boys do that sometimes, but like a pp, I just keep saying "ewwww, yucky, don't drink the bath water". But mine don't have cups of any sort - they stick their face in it and drink it, or use their hands! :unknw:

I think it's gross but as they arent dripping in mud when they go in the tub and we clean the tub regularly, ehhh... I allow it. Kids do gross stuff and I suppose the positive side is they are building their immune systems. Now if they poop in the tub (it's only happened once) that's a different ball of wax...

lol isn't it fun the things we get to say as mommies. things we never would have said or things you assume are just something you don't do. Pick your battles sister. LOL unless you are putting things like bubbles that will make their tummys sick if they drink it I figure the more you put up a fight the more they will do it. If you remove the cups, add other types of toys and stop telling them to stop they will loose interest and stop on their own.

Gross to me too, but it wan't a battle worth fighting. As long as there was no soap in the tub, I let them drink to their hearts content. Once I washed hair, though, I would get them out pretty quickly so that they didn't drink the soapy water.

The drinking water phase ended about a year ago in my house. So hang in there...

I let mine do it too. They do have cups in there...and they use the big plastic cup I have for rinsing their hair. If anything, I figure it's a good place for them to learn to drink from cups because if they spill, no biggie! haha I let the water run and they like to fill the cups under the faucet so that helps.

I agree totally gross but i've given up stopping it. Even if there are no cups int he water they either suck it off other toys or suck it out of their washclothes...gross!

Mine used to do that too, using their hands or sucking from their washcloths. They love bubbles in their bath, so if there are bubbles they get two warnings and then bath-time is over for the respective child. I had to repeat this every few weeks but now the habit has stopped and bath toys hold enough interest for them.

Mine do this too, but last night I left the faucet on a slow trickle. The girls were so enthralled with the running water that they tried drinking that and didn't drink the water that I saw. Maybe it was a novelty thing, but it worked for one night.
