My mom wants to buy the girls a dollhouse for Christmas. Any recommendations? My only criteria is that it not be totally humongous (36" is too big!).

    Thanks!

I'm still debating the whole dollhouse idea myself. But I have found some wooden ones in like the specialty type toy stores. The one I saw was $199. I also know there is one at Costco(Kidcraft) that is $89, but I believe that is a good tall one. Looks pretty cool though!

I got Hannah the little people one bc I didn't want to spend a lot of money on one if she wouldn't want to play with it like I thought she would.
She loves it but doesn't play as much with it as she was, but now that its getting colder and less outside time well see:)
Plus with the little people she could get one the doll house and one the farm or something and u could build from that?!:)

We really like the Loving Family one from Fisher Price here. It doesn't come with furniture though unless you buy a set online. And it's not too big. The kidkraft ones are great but too big for us (plus they take Barbie sized dolls and we haven't got any of those out yet).

Fran, I really like that Fisher Price one. It's pretty reasonably priced, too!

We got the My First Dollhouse little people one for Kaelyn when she was 2 or 3 yrs old. Dollhouse It comes with the mom, dad, baby, and a few pieces of furniture, you can buy more if you want. The twins will play with it now some, although they usually have their stuffies or hot wheels cars in it!

The one from costco. They will not tire of it for years and it comes with all of the furniture. For $89 it is a great deal.

I agree about not wanting it to be humongous, but think about which one they will play with for years. I got two hand me down ones when my girls were your age.. Both fisher price but now they are kind of beyond those. I'm thinking about upgrading them to a wooden one this Christmas (I'm Dh is going to blow a gasket "why do they need another doll house?!"). So just think about longevity when looking at them ;)

Really? That's odd. I was playing with little figurines forever as a kid, and there are a lot of small fun accessories in the loving family dollhouse too. My issue with the big wooden ones is that for me, the fun of playing with my Barbies was all the tiny accessories, and wooden dollhouses don't come with any.

Leighann, I had to talk myself out of the wooden one for now. :) I can't wait until the girls are big enough to build and decorate one with me.

Steph-I've been looking at dollhouses since last year. And I Think I found one I finally like! I was at Target tonigh and it's by Play Wonder. Google it. It just really caught my eye and I *really* want to get Annabella this one. I was hemming and hawing over getting her one or not this year, because I just wasn't falling in love with any. But I saw this one!

They have rooms you can add on(any way to make a buck...), and they have one that is a nursery room, and one that is a dance studio. Totally sold me!

We've got a giant KidKraft one (I didn't want any fighting over space, so made sure to get one big enough they could play side by side with!).

But just went over to Zulily and they have Plan Toys Dollhouses for a good price: Plan Toys

    Just thought I'd share!

We are going to get Libby the KidsKraft Modern Doll House from Costco. Its reasonably priced and it will take her through the up coming years! If my mom was going to get it for her, I would do something a little smaller at her age (3) but because its me that's buying it...I'm going bigger to last the years.

That is the one I want to get my girls! You can configure the rooms all different ways and the base set comes with a ton of furniture. Plus it didn't seem too pricey, but the online reviews warned leaving a lot of time to put it together because apparently that is a nightmare.

    I got my girls this
    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015KSSTY/?tag=mytwins02-20

Amazon had a lightening deal so it was only $50.00 shipped and i had $40 worth of points, so I only paid $10 for it. I didnt want to go too crazy, because at this point they don't really play with figurines as having actual personalities and stuff, so I wasn't sure that they were quite ready for a doll house yet at this point, still not sure how they will do with playing with it together, I didnt want something so crazy.

I told grandparents etc. that I had bought the house, and asked them to buy furniture to fill it.

THis is the one we had from 3-6. It is FABULOUS and big enough for both girls to play in.

At 6 we got a huge 36" wooden one for the barbie-sized dolls.

Personally I always loved the doll houses that you could sit on the floor and play with. I had 4+ doll houses over my childhood. I liked the Fisher Price Loving Family one that is tri-fold the best. I could reach it all while I was sitting on the floor. Then I could fold it up and put it away. I still have it but I think the last time I played with it I was 17. I pretty much stopped playing with it when I was about 12. I think when I was 17 I was reminiscing back to my childhood. I still own it and I have enough furniture/people/cars/motorhomes/swimming pools to fill and HUGE rubber made tub.

I never liked the wooden houses. They are harder to clean and don't have as many add on pieces plus they tend to break easier. The ones that you build(like the ones you buy at Hobby Lobby) tend to break a lot especially the pieces like banisters and chair/ table legs.
