My husband and I are having a debate (not a heated one. :)) about whether or not the baby laundry should be separated into lights and darks before washing. We didn't separate when they were very little, but now they are starting to wear blue jeans and I think some of the clothes is starting to look dingy because we aren't separating them. Also, DH thinks all the baby clothes should be washed in hot water, but I tend to wash in warm or cold. What do you do?

I would vote for hot water, it kills/removes more allergens from the clothes...

I wash all their clothing colors in the same load on cold. I wash their towels, washcloths and bibs together in hot water.

I wash most of their clothes together. If there are brights or really dark clothes I separate them. Also, I leave out bibs stained with something that can rub off onto other clothes during the wash, like prunes.

I was everything together, clothes dark & light, towels, socks, washcloths. etc. in hot water. I think the hot water kills any germs or allergens. I'm not too worried about fading colors right now because they seem to be growing out of things so quickly. Sometimes clothes get worn once or twice.

I wash everything together with OxyClean Baby and a Free/Sensitive Tide or Cheer (we have to use this for DH too) and wash on cold.

Jeans get washed with my jeans/darks, and reds are a seperate wash as well, both in cold water.

FYI, washing things in hot water doesnt necessarily kill anything that a dryer would not kill.

I don't separate colors, even with our stuff. Too many loads of laundry to worry about that. The babies stuff gets washed together and on cold. Our stuff gets washed on cold.

Yup, the dryer is the most efficient germ killer.

    Good to know!

I wash cloth diapers (burp cloths), baby towels and bibs in one load with hot water. Everything else gets washed in warm, I don't separate colors.

I seperate lights and darks. Lights I consider white, pink, purple, cream etc. Darks are red, blue, green, black etc. I was everything it cold/cold. I also use oxi clean in the lights and it works wonderful!

I am definately in the minority... I seperate lights and darks. Lights get washed in Warm. Darks in Cold. Most of the time they don't have enough darks to warrant their own load so I throw them in with mine.

I always run the baby clothes with mine... I've never had discoloration issues. I'll watch a red sweater separately the first time but after I don't bother.

This is what I do too! I do wash our towels, washcloths and dishrags in hot with bleach.

I wash the babies' stuff with all the rest of the laundry...lights/darks/whites/towels typically get washed separately, but I often combine lights and darks and wash on cold if doing them separately doesn't make for a full load.

I do one load of their towels/sheets/blankets/bibs/washcloths/burp rags, etc. This is done on warm. (I put all the bibs in one of those lingerie bag type things, that way the velcro doesn't get stuck to everything in the load.)

I then do one load of all their clothes and I do this in warm also. They have a couple denim dresses, etc, and I usually throw those in with all of our jeans instead of their laundry. I would consider 98% of their clothes "light". Besides the denim dresses, there is probably 2 pairs of red pants.

I wash all the babies' stuff together on cold- better for the environment and energy bills!

Everything together on cold (after soaking in oxyclean or baby oxyclean in the washer).

Everything together on warm. If there's a new red outfit and I remember I'll throw it in with our red stuff the first time though.
