Does your uterus tighten when standing/walking?

I'm 27 weeks along and currently on a sort of partial bedrest because I had unexplained bleeding at 23 weeks. Most of the day I am kind of reclining in bed. I've noticed over the past several days that every time I get up and walk around, my uterus tightens so that it feels like a basketball. Usually it's not painful, but yesterday I also had pains shooting down my inner thighs, and today at one point it was painful in the abdomen. I don't know if those pains are related though.

So my question is--is it normal that your uterus feels soft when sitting/lying down but tightens up every time you stand up/walk around? I guess I'm wondering what other people's experience is.

    Thanks!!!

Well, I decided to call my doctor's office just in case. They said as long as this is happening to take it as a signal from my body to stay off my feet. They also said that it's a good thing that it does away when I lie down.

I have this too. I don't get concerned because if I am standing it is tougher or tighter, but as soon as I sit down it is soft. I don't consider it contratctions b/c it doesn't gradually come and gradually go away. There is a total difference between the two for me. Plus it has been going on a majority of the pregnancy.

    Hope this helps.

I had this for a while when I started bedrest at 28 weeks. They called it uterine irritability. Now I'm 36 weeks with g/g twins, so everything is tight almost all the time!! I agree it's a good thing that it stops when you lie down and it should be a reminder to stay off your feet. Good luck.

I feel like the bottom of my belly tightens up when I've been up too long. I was wondering if it was some kind of BH contraction myself...

Those are mostly like BH contractions. (The basketball thing -- I don't know about the pains down your legs?) It always happened to me when I stood up, from about 24 weeks on. My OB said it was OK as long as I only had a couple and they subsided pretty quickly. She said to call if they got stronger, were regular, or if I had more than 6 in an hour. HTH!

Sounds like contractions. I was on 9 weeks of bedrest and everytime I would get up to go to the bathroom or change positions, I would get one.

I just spoke to my OB yesterday about this. She said it's BH b/c of irratibility and it's fine. It happens to me EVERY time I get up from the bed for anything. She said as long as they don't continue and form a pattern.

I'm glad you contacted your Dr and that it's not a concern at the moment.
I get the same when I get up I think I push on the uterus or something too much and it just balls up. I don't know-lol. It does happen though.

Yes, I have the same thing when I get up or if I am sitting up too long. Laying down does help.

I get the same tightening every time I get up and if I walk too far/too long they get very painful (doubled over in pain & crying). I called ob and they said as long as they stop when I lie down then all is well but if they continue to happen like this they will put me on bedrest. DH & I have decided that we are putting me on bedrest now anyway. We've come too far to screw this up. I will call ob again on Monday and ask for an appt to just things out since next appt isn't until 5/29.

Yes! Count me in here ladies.

Just this past week I've been experiencing a tightning in my tummy, mostly at the top. Especially when I stand up or change positions in bed. I mentioned this to my doctor & he said I must start timing them, but way difficult to do when it's happening in the early hours of the morning! :)

But like the rest of you it goes away when I sit in the recliner or lay down. I'm finding it quite a challenge staying off my feet...
There is still so much to do before this little ones come! I know, I know, I must leave it to dh..didnt think it would be so difficult though... :)

I get this too. Sometimes its really painful. I just thought of it as a sign from my body to relax more...

another one for the "me too" list!

at first i thought it was just the increased weight of my belly pulling down, but now i recognize them as BH....if i just either sit down or bend over, it passes pretty quickly, and until now it's never been painful.
