It does not stop labor- just contractions. It could slow it I suppose.

I've never actually thought about it. I was in what I thought was "real" labor. I was effaced 70-80%, and had started to dilate at 26 weeks. I was put on terb & strict bedrest. I ended up making it 11 more weeks, and I never progressed any further once I started the terb & bedrest.

It stops contractions. Any contractions that change your cervix are "real" and they will give terbutaline. But, if you are having too many BH they will also give you terb b/c they can turn into real contractions.

I'm not real sure either. But I was put on terb at 26 weeks and I have not really progressed since then either. My cervix has shortened a bit but only what is normal.
I think it will slow down contractions that would cause your cervix to change and put you in labor.

It is supposed to stop contractions I believe. However, I was on the terb pill and still had Emilie early, so I don't know. <_<

I was also told that it doesn't stop real labor. My OB uses something else b/c he feels terb does nothing but possibly help the woman with the symptoms.

That's one of the crazier things I've heard. I would swear the medicine was manufactured by the devil, had it not helped me deliver 37 weekers. I spent 11 weeks laying on a couch, while my heart beat out of my chest, my hands shook, and I felt like running a marathon - but was confined to a couch for 23.5 hours a day. The only thing that medicine did for me was to help keep my babies from coming too soon.

My OB told me that it wouldnt stop real labor. That it would just stop the contractions if they werent real. He said that there is really nothing you could do to stop real labor from comming on.

I was in the hospital and was having contractions every 5 minutes and the Terb shot seem to stop them.
I believe it does to a certain extent. I think it depends on how far along they are- So I think it can work
sometimes, but other times you can't control when mother nature wants you to have your little ones.
I had the terb shot actually twice in the hospital and it stopped my contractions. When you feel them and they
are real close, make sure you call the Dr. Because you don't want to wait to long and then it could be too late and
you'll have to go into labor. That's what my specialist said. Take care-

In have been on terb since I was 17 weeks preggo, and I am 32wks and 4 days and I take them three times a day and they are not doing anything for my contractions. I just feel like I am taking medicine for the fun of it, and it is really irritating. So I guess it's different for everyone, I have a doc. appt. tomorrow and I plan on telling my doc. again that they aren't doing anything for me.

I was on the terb pump for PTL from 25 wks through 36 weeks and on strict bedrest. My babies came 6 days after I stopped the terb. In my case, I feel the terb is the reason why I didn't deliver at 25 wks and have healthy boys today. That said, my dose had to be adjusted throughout the time I was on it. The farther along I got, the more terb I needed to stop teh contractions and cervical dilation. Good luck.

I, too, was told that it doesn't stop real labor. I took it every 4 hrs. from Week 20 to 33, Now, I just take it as needed. IE- before I go to bed or I won't sleep, if I get them continuously & just want them to stop. But my Dr. said I'll know if it's true labor if they don't stop and keep coming harder & faster.

when i was in the hospital with my son, i was having contractions every 2 minutes and they gave me a shot of terb and that held me over for 3 more days.. then i went back in got 2 more shots of terb. Again they settled down the 3rd time i was in the hospital they gave me shots of terb around the clock and started me on a pill form laying on my side.. i was having regular rolling contractions, that they would see in a laboring woman so they were quite concerned.. but with the strict bedrest and the terb every 6 hours i stayed pregnant to 37 weeks.
