I brought my twins home with me on 4/27, 4 days after i welcomed them into the world. They were very small, my son only 3.5 pounds. They NEVER had to be in the NICU and were totally healthy as long as we kept an eye on the body temsp. Does it shock you that i took them home at that size? We left the hospital with Beau being 3 lbs 9 oz and Savannah being 4 pounds 7 oz. They were so freaking tiny and i was so happy that i got to take them both home and now looking back i see how lucky i really was. How well they did (Beau was 4 10 at 2 weeks) I am just curious because when i tell people this IRL they look at me like WHAT, WOW! This is a miracle that i was able to bring them home and they never spent time in the NICU. I feel blessed but telling you this are you shocked?

Also do you see babies in the store and think wow how small? I ran into a new mother in Wal-Mart and her baby was one week old. I was like OMG so small yet her baby was over 6 lbs at birth and mine were so much smaller and it is like a dream because i vaguely remember them being that small.. How about you???

    Sweet Memories...

I know what you mean. Looking at their preemie clothes and realizing that even those were too big!! Alyssa was 4lbs 11oz and Ashely was 4lbs 12oz (both over 5lbs at birth) when we took them home and it is shocking to some people. Now they are 18lb very active 10mnth olds, it is hard to remember them being so tiny!!

    wow, you are so lucky!

My hospital wouldn't release the girls until they were 4 1/2 lbs...must be some rule. I think it was something about the car seats??

It is amazing to see how well all of our LO's are growing!!!

It does shock me because our hospital will not release a baby until it's at least 4lbs.

Yes it shocks me to see our coming home pictures and video. It also shocks me to see how big preemie diapers were on them in the hospital and when they first came home.

Crazy to think that my two tiny babies are now big girls with a first birthday coming up.

It was crazy bringing DD home when she was 3.13 and so tiny. She was swallowed up by her car seat! But she is doing great and just 12 weeks later is over 10 pounds. DS came home under 5 lbs too at 4.15. Our hospital will let you go if they are healthy - no weight requirements.

I would have been shocked had they released me with babies that size. Me, I had the opposite shock. That I gave birth to two full-sized babies! Of course, looking back, they all appear so tiny! Glad everything worked out for you!

Yes i'm shocked!!! my hospital wouldn't let me take them home under 2500grams which is 5 and a half pounds.
I was there for a week. <_< No NICU, just special care nursery. I hated it. I'm glad your hosp let you take your bubba's home.
Mine are only 2.5 months now and I already cant believe how much they have grown!

Wow. I can't even imagine a healthy baby that small. My smaller twin was 6 lb 9 oz and she seemed so frail to me. Your babe was almost half her size! I worried about her all the time. Her twin was 8 lb 4 oz and my other kids were 6lb 12 oz and 8 lb 15 oz.

We brought Peyton home when he was 3 pounds 10 oz and it was a little scary at first but we just got used to it. Now at 7 months he is 16 pounds 13 oz and happy as can be!

My SIL is here visiting and we were talking about this same thing today. She has twins as well (10 years old now) and when she brought them home from the hospital with no NICU time, they both weighed about four pounds apiece. My boys seemed small and they were about 5.5 pounds each.

That would shock me if someone told me that! That is so tiny! I know here, they wont release a baby who doesnt weigh at least 4 lbs.

Yes, that is shocking! A friend of mine delivered early (same hospital where our girls were born) and they weren't allowed to bring the baby home until she was 5 lbs. My 'little' one was 6 lbs. 6 oz. (the other was just over 7 lbs.), so I can't imagine bringing home such a tiny healthy baby (and a boy, too, since they're more likely to have problems).

It's crazy, isn't it? When my daughter was born she was 2 lbs 15 oz and spent 5-6 weeks in the NICU. They released her at 3 lbs 10 oz. She was sooooo tiny! The hospital had a policy of not releasing babies until 4 lbs, but if they are eating by mouth, maintaining their temp, not having any brady's or any other problems then they feel they are better off at home where there are less germs. I remember how shocked people would be when they would see us out and about (we had to go out a lot because of her dr appts). Now when I see a baby that small I think - wow!

When Jack and Meghan were born and EACH were 5 lbs 13 oz and they were born at the same gestation as my DD I was SHOCKED to not have any NICU time. It was wonderful to leave the hospital at 4 days WITH my babies. Such a concept.

It surprises me because I thought all hospitals had a 4+ pound weight requirement for release and would keep them in special care until they reached it. Did you have to use a car bed for transportation? Have the baby pass a stress test sitting in the carseat?

I alsways thought there as some kind of weight requirement before they could go. Peyton was 6.6 and Mackenzie was 6.12 and I thought that was small. I can't imagine bring home a baby half that size.

Ours were both 4 pounds even when we took them home ... the hospital didn't usually let babies go home until they were 2 kilos ... ours were like 1.8 kilos ... and they let them go home ... it wasn't a hard and fast rule ... we did have some NICU time though =(

Anyway, the other day at the mall, I saw some baby twins and the parents stopped us to chat and the twins were 1 month old (ours are 6 mos) and the babies were 5 pounds and I was amazed at how tiny they were! And ours were a whole pound smaller when we brought them home ... I couldn't believe they used to be so small!

I do (sort-of) miss those teeny tiny days!!!

Same here. It seemed to take an agonizing long time to get them both home for that reason. I'm glad your babies are doing so well. I remember when I refered to how much they ate in "cc's" , now it's how many pieces of toast!

Yes Sara i remember getting them to eat the CC's too... OMG it all seems so far away... Yet it was only 9 months ago... We brought the babies home in car seats and we had to pass the front desk inspection (some nurses) they had to take Beau out and redo it all but all in all we got to leave. I thought OMG they are going to make us go buy special seats, it was a major blur... I have pics of them in their carseats and they were itty bitty. I would post them but i cant post pics... There ar alot of them on their website in my siggy!

I got to take Jordan home with me straight away as he was 6 lbs 5 oz but poor Sienna was only 3 lbs 4 oz and had to spend 25 days in the NICU/Special care until she reached 4 lbs. It took FOREVER. I am so sure she would have put on more quickly if we had her at home.

Since then she has taken off and at 2 days shy of 11 months is approx. 19 lbs. My Son is approx. 27 lbs. :D
