    ...what does?
They've had a hideous diaper rash for going on two weeks now. It doesn't appear to be getting worse, but it isn't getting better. I've been changing more frequently and really piling on the Desitin to no avail.
Do I need to call the ped? What if I use the Nystatin cream we have left over from the yeast/thrush?
    Thanks!

I would try the Nystatin, could be yeast. I like Boudreaux's for just a regular diaper rash.

Is the skin broken Sara? If so I would try neosporin and then a cream like triple paste or full strength desitin (not creamy). If there are pimply looking red dots and it's very red around their bottom, it's probably yeast. If it doesn't respond to the nystatin w/in a few days you should call the pedi. It could be infected. Mine recently had a staph infection on their bottoms that had to be treated with topical & oral antibiotics. Be sure to change them frequently, avoid wiping as much as possible and soaking in a warm bath may help as well. I hope it clears up soon!

We have two prescriptions for diaper rash cream, but I was told that the Lotrimin foot cream works wonders. I haven't tried it yet but I have it for next time. Also try laying your babies naked on a towel and letting them get some air. [IMG]

I agree with Becky. We had horrible diaper rash here until recently when we started using Bordeaux's Butt Paste. It has a little bit of a different scent to it, nothing terrible, but it definitely works!

I would use the Nystatin as well, because that is what the pedi will prescribe anyway... that is what ours prescribed when mine had BAD diaper rash, it cleared things up in 2 days, where as nothing else would for DAYS to weeks...

I have never had any luck with Desitin. I like Butt Paste for day to day or a small rash, but Triple Paste really works great if the rash is bad. You just need a small amount and it works fast. I only use it on the bad rashes as it is a bit $$.

DD had a bad rash a couple of weeks ago and I switched her to disposibles (we use cloth) and I aired her out several times a day...I swear by sudocream....her rash was gone in 3 days...looked better after 24 hours.

We use Triple Paste for tough rashes - really pile it on. If there are bumps, try the Lotramin. It usually takes a few days to clear. If not, see your ped.

Try Flanders (ask for it at your pharmacy - Target , Walgreens, CVS, etc.). Or, I've recently started using Mustela's diaper cream. Morgan is sensitive to most lotions and he handles Mustela's line much better. It definitely clears him right up.

We use A and D ointment, like neosporin, and they make a diaper rash version also. Try to have them stay naked as long as possible after bath.

My oldest dd ped. recommended mixing lotrimin and diaper cream. I just love the Desitin Original though, NOT the creamy. Also, CVS will mix a cream called "Bentonite". If you call your pharmacy and ask about it, they should be able to mix it up; it takes 24 hours or so, but it's the best!! Keep it in the refrigerator to make it last. Plus the cold cream is very soothing on a sore bottom. Good luck!
