Does anyone's child have imaginary friends?

Nolan intermittently brings up his friend Boogey Jones. He talks about him but not like he is with him all the time. He has told me at different times that he goes to his school, has a father named Douglas and a mother named Maureen, lives in Florida and today he said he thinks he is going to be at the party we are going to.

Is it an imaginary friend? He's never been to our house.

I can only tell you about our house. Sarah has a doll Emma. When Emma is not physically present, Sarah will still pretend that Emma is there, and pretend to lift Emma up to see things in the zoo, for example.

Ok, that was the more normal part. The kids love the books about "SkippyJon Jones." Skippyjon is a Siamese cat who like to pretend he's a dog. Timothy is Skippyjon most of the time. Skippy has 3 sisters, Jujubee, Jezebel, and Jillyboo. Sarah is usually Jujubee. They both actively include Jillyboo and Jezebel as a part of their daily lives. They'll be playing seperately and one will be playing with Jezebel and the other with Jillyboo. Now both of the kids greet people by meowing. Oh yes, and I'm more commonly known as "Mama Junebug Jones".

I think it just demonstrates a healthy imagination. I had an imaginary friend growing up. The more my parents tried to get rid of him (they locked him in the garage one winter), they more I clung to him.

he's certainly at the age for imaginary friends--and i think it's kind of hard for a kid to go to school in massachussetts and live in florida, let alone the name boogey--so i vote for imaginary and very normal

My DD imagine-plays with her real-life friends. Her best friend is a girl named Olivia (DD calls her Leeva), and, when DD hasn't seen her in a while, she starts imagine-playing with her! For several days, "pretend Leeva" will sleep with DD in bed, go with her in the car, eat meals with us, etc. She will work out very elaborate scenarios, like, "Leeva has to spend the night tonight because her mommy is sick and throwing up, and can't come to get her..." Lately, she's also been imagine-playing with a girl she likes in her preschool class, Elayna... I think it's a sign that I need to invite Elayna over for a real playdate...

My kids do the pretend play, too. They become Mommy and Daddy, Grandma and Grandpa, Tommy and Caroline (cousins) or Katherine and Michael(their best friends, juj's kids). This Boogey Jones thing had me wondering though. Today Boogey scratched Nolan's leg and Meghan told me that she does not like Boogey, but she's never seen him.

My youngest sister had imaginary friends growing up, she would have sleepovers with them and they were so noisy that my other sister and I would have to go get my mother to come quiet them down. Their names were Punky, Beezbo and Chabla and one of them had kids, but I can't remember which one.

Well, K&M don't have imaginary friends. They have imaginary relatives.

They talk about "New Nana" all the time.

She lets them do ALL the things that we don't let them do.

She lets them eat ALL the things that we don't let them eat.

She has the best toys. She lets them jump on the furniture.

Michael's New Nana lives in the Blue House. Katherine's New Nana lives in the Pink House.

Michael's New Nana lets him have gumdrops and he sleeps in a racecar bed when he sleeps over.

Katherine's New Nana lets her have gum and she sleeps in a "flamingo bed" when she sleeps over.

They have been talking about New Nana for over a year now. Sometimes that talk about Grandpa who lives with New Nana.

The other day they told me that New Nana is going to have a baby. Again, another item that we are giving them!

Actually, they have 2 of the Best Grandmothers a kid could ask for.
I get a big kick outta of them talking about New Nana. I'm chalking it up to a GREAT imagination.

Now I wouldn't be too concerned about Nolan's friend. I would chalk that up to a GREAT imagination also. The scratch on the leg caused by the imaginary friend would concern me a bit.

Do you know what/who caused the scratch?

Mr Michael here. DS is always calling him on his play phone and tells me what color "Mr Michael's" shoes are (some days they are blue, some days they are white and others they are brown). We don'tr know anyone named Michael so I have no idea where he came from.

When our oldest was about 3.5 to 4 years old he had two imaginary friends called bula and susta from what we were told they were full sized children who he spent all of his time with susta was very naughty and bula was very good.I dont remember when he stopped talking about them but it was before he started school.

I'm sure he just scratched it himself.

He was talking to us about Boogey last night. Boogey has two dogs and one of them has a hurt leg. His dog's name is Yeti and the hurt one doesn't have a name yet, it's a puppy.

I am finding this so amusing.

my older ds had one and I had one… mine I can still remember what he looked like and he wore the same clothes everyday… his name was Bobby and he wore a white shirt and shorts (70’s style)… he had curly dark brown hair and was just a tad taller and older then me… but when we moved out of that house, he didn’t move w/ us …

My son (Noah) had one and his name was no-skay… he wouldn’t talk much about him just when he was talking to himself he would answer questions and when I asked who he was talking to he said No-skay….

So it is normal over here and I think fun to see what they come up w/
