Does anyone have a Storkcraft crib?

We are seriously considering this one:

    http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4241518

The Good News: Reviews on walmart.com are overwhelmingly positive. (And DH and I checked it out in person at a Walmart today--grante,d the full crib is not set up in-store but we could at least see the quality of the crib and construction and test a mini-version of the drop-side... and it seemed pretty sturdy.) Though, as with all cribs, the very few reviews that ARE negative are disturbing ("My baby chewed a chunk out of the side of the crib," "It came with broken pieces and we've been waiting 2 months for replacements," etc.).

Bad News: the book "Baby Bargains" gives unimpressive ratings to Storkcraft as a brand--a C, and it says parents generally give Storkcraft low marks for quality.
And many of the Wal-mart reviewers who did give it positive reviews have not owned the crib very long; I'm wondering how it will hold up through toddlerhood.

So I'm just looking for more feedback and input--all the better if you have this particular crib and/or have used a Storkcraft crib for a year or longer.

Trying to find a good, sturdy crib for around $250 or less seems like quite a challenge! If you have other suggestions in that category, feel free to share. My wonderful BIL and his wife have offered to buy one of the cribs for us as a baby gift, so we are trying to decide for sure this week.

No advice for you on the Storkcraft crib, but we got our baby furniture at JC Penney. I only mention it because it was a great in between price (not cheapie but not high end furniture) so for your price range it would give you another option. I also had no idea they sold furniture until we stumbled across it online.

I have Storkcraft cribs and we haven't had any problems them. So far I really like them. We've only been using them for 7 months or so. (Didn't start using them until the babies were around 3 months.)

That being said, we bought them not expecting to keep them forever. We'll convert them to toddler beds and then when they are ready for bigger beds, we'll probably get them a complete bedroom set. So the quality isn't something that you'd maybe want to keep and pass down.

Our cribs came with all the pieces and were very easy to assemble as well. (It does take two though.) Oh, and we did order ours from walmart.com. (I didn't like the cribs that our store carries.) If you find something online you like better, they will ship it to your store and you don't have to pay the shipping fees. (For two cribs our shipping would have been almost $150. So we didn't have to pay that, which was great!)

    Anyway, hope that helps some!

I had a horribe issue with Storkcraft!! If you buy your cribs from the store and not have it shipped then you might not have the same issues. We bought ours online (not the one you're looking at) from BRU, 2 of them. They both were delivered within 4-6 weeks but came very damaged, and one was missing all of the "tools" screws and all that. We were able to put one together completely and then called up Storkcraft and re-ordered all of the broken and misses pieces. The Service rep was really nice and it was of course all free to us. She said we would get them with-in 3-4 weeks. NOPE it took 12 weeks!!!!!!!! I had the HARDEST time geting a hold of a manager!! I finally googled some info and was able to email personally the CEO of Storkcraft and had a manager call me 30 minutes later! I then got the pieces 5 days later! But being pregnant with twins, I was a wreck over this! They are in Canada so they don't have any replacement parts in any stores in the US, so if something is missing or damaged you have to go through them.
Now, I love, love, love the cribs! It was just a real pain to get more parts.
    Good luck in your search!

We have Storkcraft and 3 years of experience so I'll tell you what I've learned...

The wood is soft and can be chewed but then there are $400 cribs with this same problem. Both of my boys were chewers so the sides where it doesn't have a plastic guard are very marked up. Luckily, they preferred to chew while standing so the spindles are intact. So, I wouldn't count on having a nice headboard for later because it might happen but it also might end up chewed. The hard oak arms on our couches have only a little light scratching for comparison (though they were more likely to be caught and stopped with the couch arms...)

The drawers underneath the cribs are no longer attached to their rails. A few episodes of little boys pulling the drawers out and jumping in them ripped the screws right out. HOWEVER, the cribs themselves have remained structurally sound through many jumping sprees and rail rattlings.

We did have an issue with a non-standard shape when we needed to use crib tents but the design you're considering wouldn't have this problem. I would definitely stick to a fairly rectangular shape and stay away from solid sides in case you need tents later. To do it over, I'd probably get a basic Jenny Lind and skip the multi-purpose.

Our cribs arrived with all parts included and in good condition. The assembly instructions left much to be desired but DH figured it out.

    Hi there,
All of this stuff is such a pain to sort out. We purchased these from Walmart online - also did the ship to store option that someone else mentioned to avoid paying the shipping fees.

    crib

The cribs are fine and came with all of the pieces - I feel I got what I paid for it and figure it will probably make it as a transition bed to twin beds. They certainly are not high quality, but I figure almost regardless these boys will be pretty rough on whatever we get :) Cant say much about how they are holding up as we have only been using them for a short amount of time.

We have the Storkcraft "Rochester" Cribs and have no complaints so far. They were fairly easy to assemble and seem durable. I love the one handed drop.

I wouldn't go by the idea of costing more being better. I bought these at Walmart for under $300.00 each, but I could have bought them at BRU or Sears for over $500.00. Same cribs much more money.

    GL with whatever you decide.
