Does anyone else's babies grunt and groan 24/7?

OK - you don't even want to know what it sounds like in the twins' bedroom! It's crazy - I asked my doctor about constipation as these two literally strain, grunt and groan (and get all red in the face!) ALL THE TIME! I am breastfeeding and giving formula (b/c I haven't had enough milk to breastfeed both exclusively). Evi has really loose/watery stools and Elsa's are what I consider normal. It just sounds like they are in pain all the time! Any advice out there? Is the combination of formula and breast milk a factor here? I am feeding Elsa Neosure and Evi Simulac Advanced. Elsa was exclusivey on breast milk while she was in the NICU for 3.5 weeks. The doctor doesn't seen concerned - but I am!

    Help! Is this normal?

My boys grunt all the time. I feel like I am sharing a room with a bunch of old men. At first I thought they were in pain but it doesnt seem to bother them. One has reflux and I can tell when he is having a reflux episode but it definitely is not all the time when he is grunting. I think some of it is just their way of vocalizing. It seems to be lessening as they get older but it's still very noticeable to me.

No, ours do it too. We do about 2/3 breastmilk, 1/3 formula per day, depending on if I went out to the office or not. They do it even if they don't have formula.
I think it's just that their little intestinal systems are still new, and everything's a strain.
They don't seem in pain at all. If it's particularly bad, I'll give them a dose of Mylicon drops and that seems to help. I know it's not reflux, since there's no spit up and if it were reflux, I don't think Mylicon would come close to doing the job.

my son did the same thing for about the first 2-3 months. he is FINALLY over htat though. i agree that it is probably just their little immature digestive systems. we gave mylicon after every meal, which i think did help and burped in varous positions. if you think they are straining a lot you can lay them on their back and pump their legs/bicycle them a bit to help get out the gas. that helped a lot too (just don't do it shortly after eating- you will pump out the other way! quite messy! Ha! That makes me laugh because my dd did the first 2 months of her life and then suddenly stopped. She literally sounded like an old man in the next room. I couldn't believe those sounds were coming from such a tiny person. Hopefully, it will end soon for you guys like it did for us.

My DD did. She grunted until she was about 4-5 months old then she stopped.

THANKS - glad to hear many more of you are experiencing (or have experienced) the same grunting! It is AMAZING that tiny little babies can be so vocal! And the old man analogy is right on!

I am going to try the Milacon - I remember having it with my son but was unsure if the twins were too young for it. Off to Target to buy some!

My DD grunted also, she sounded so cute though, like a billy goat. She would at times strain and get red in the face, so the pedi told us to add a tsp of benefiber to the morning bottle. Worked like a charm. We did it until she was about 3 months (about 5-6 weeks total) until her little system finally matured. It helped her pass things along until her system caught up. The mylicon drops never worked for her.

Both of mine did that one more than the other. We discovered reflux meds and it stopped within 3 days and they stayed on their meds until 9 months. They still have reflux but now they seem to control it better. They are off meds and generally quiet when slrrping. Nothing like before. They would grunt groan and wake sometimes screaming. The reflux also cause Kayla to stop breathing a few times and was admitted to hospital so I am really glad to have discovered their reflux problem sooner than later.
    Good Luck
