Does anyone else have this problem?

I am curious as to if anyone else has this problem. My girls are 3 1/2 wks and are about 6 lb. When we feed them the formula runs/dribbles out of their mouth and if makes it difficult for me to feed them at the same time during the day when I am by myself because I feel they need extra attention so that they get most of the formula. Will it get better? I use the platex drop-ins and slow flow nippples. Some of the posts I have read of people who feed at the same time says it takes them about 30 min to change, feed and burp. How? My girls take a good 20 min. to eat 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 ounces. Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

My girls were BAD dribblers. We used to put a burp cloth under their chin and around their shoulders and it would be wet after every feeding. I never found a solution to it, but am hoping that someone else will. Also, my girls ate pretty slowly also.

My DD still does this. I ALWAYS put a bib on her at EVERY feeding. She is a messy eater. Also she used to take 30-45 minutes to eat her bottle.

Yes mine have just recently started to get better but still wear a good portion of each feeding. We do the same as pp with burp cloths on them and us. My only tip is I try to make sure I have the bottle completely upright. That help a tiny bit. I also use the drop ins with slow flow nips. They will get faster/more proficient at eating. Mine now take 10 minutes or so to finish 6 - 8 oz.

Mine were 8 weeks early. I don't know if that contributes to the messiness or not.

Emily is really messing when she takes her bottle, I think out of the 6 oz she drinks, at least 1 oz goes on her. She even gets it on her back, it is sooooo gross.

yup! chloe (the little one of the 2) is SO messy! we call her colnel sanders when she eats, cause she continuously has a white formula beard!
we always tuck a thin burp cloth under her chin w/ every feeding.

Mine were also pretty bad dribblers. We just used drool bibs at every feeding. I never understood how someone could feed two at once in the early weeks, since it took all my attention just to get most of the formula in the mouth rather than down her neck.

Mine were the same. I actually ended up changing their nipple flow sooner because of the slowness also. They did get better, so I am thinking its a phase. :hug99: It will get better, I promise.

Both of mine were/are messy eaters, but DS is the worst. They have gotten much better though. And at first it did take them forever to eat, but now they are down to about 10-15 minutes for a 4-6oz bottle.

    So it does get better!

What we do is but a burb cloth (cloth diaper really) under their necks and then use another to wipe up the mess. When I feed them by myself I just unzip their sleeper and pull it off their shoulders and then just let them be messy. I'll get a warm washcloth after to clean them up.

    HTH!

That is one of the reasons I always fed mine one at a time--so they could get the attention they needed. One of mine needed to be burped every 1/2 -1 oz, so he took a while. I think it the time that they had bottles, I only had one really bad day with one crying to eat while waiting his turn.

Our girls did it all the time, whether being fed one at a time or together.

Same here. No matter what I did, my guys were just plain messy. Actually not much has changed in that department. 8P

Mine dribble some of the time and still do. They are just like Mommy, messy eaters :)

My girls have the same problem. I pretty much have them in bibs most of the day. If they're not dribbling, then they're spitting. They must get that from their father! :p

My girls are 4 weeks and eating about the same as yours. They both dribble terribly too so I use bibs or tuck a burp cloth in their sleepers if I don't have a bib handy. It usually takes me 45 minutes to feed them both when I'm by myself.

My friend is a pediatric OT who works with kids on feeding.
She said to give a little cheek support. So use your thumb on one side of the baby's face and forefinger and ring finger on the other side and hold the cheeks up and in a bit - this should help keep the seal on the bottle stronger.
    Hope that helps :)

I just had to say that I love the picture of chloe as col. sanders! How adorable!! My DS & DD both get milk beards too. Every feeding. In fact, they dribble so much that the regular bibs get too wet. I've had to swith to the bibs with plastic backs.

My girls did this too and I fed them one at a time (not coordinated enough in those early days to feed both at once :p ). When they were super small I used to put a finger under their chin to help them keep hold of the bottle, but it didn't matter they were still messy. I just bought a ton of those gerber cloth diapers and used them for burp cloths.

ugh mine were bad dribblers too... I hated anyone else feeding them because they made a mess of their clothes... I say get some cloth diapers for burp cloths and simply make sure they have one wrapped under their neck everytime to catch the dribbles. it really is a pain but it will get better in time. :)

Our older twin had that problem because she was born with a huge tounge, but we haven't really had a problem with it since her face is growing into her tounge and since she started holding her own bottle. I had to constantly use a burb cloth or bib to catch the extra formula.

    Lots of love!
