Does any regret not using a helmet?

I know there has been a lot posted on this topic, and I just browsed through most of it, but I still wondered if anyone could provide more input.

Ethan's head has always been pretty flat on one side (I really think due to positioning in womb as he did not favor a side or have tort), and our ped in CA diagnosed it as plagio at 2 months, but just recommended positioning techniques and said we'd keep our eye on it. At 4 months, it didn't look much better and he admitted seeing a tad misalignment of the ears. We went ahead with a skull x-ray just to rule out craniosyntosis as a precaution, and it was fine. He really thought it was fine, and wasn't a big believer in helmets for reshaping. (although he said he'd definitely give us a referral if we wanted and would support our decison).

Fast forward 2.5 months. We made a big family move from So Cal to a little town in IL. I was able to get in at a highly recommended ped here today (and I liked her a lot), and she said about the same thing. She said it wasn't super noticable to her unless she looked for it, but would give us a referral if we so desired.

Scary part is that this is the crucial time frame, he is 6.5 months.

I'm leaning towards just letting it be. (not that I'm worried about how it would look or anything ( I actually think they are pretty cute), but if its not really a big deal for him?). I just would hate to regret it later on down the line... his daddy does'nt have much hair so its likely he won't either...

I don't have a measurement yet, maybe we should see a specialist just to talk it through?

    Any thoughts?

Here are my cuties... haven't posted in awhile due to all that's been going on with the cross country move and settling in... We are still in a duplex until our house in CA sells and we find one we like here. (stressful)

My twins are 4 months old in one week and I have been posting a lot of questions about my DS plagio. He had tort at birth but with stretches it had resolved itself by 2 mo. My DD did not get diagnosed with tort until 2mo and receives PT once a week.

MY DD PT recommended that I get DS head measured to see whether or not he needs a helmet. We decided to see the specialist to either put our mind at ease or to make a decision on a helmet or not. My DH and I think if it is recommended we are going to do it.

Right now, we are going through the insurance paperwork to make the appt - I will let you know when we get one and how it goes. Good luck on your decision.

If you are going back and forth on it, I would get the referral. I know people have posted in the past about knowing a kid with a weird flat shape on their heads because nothing was done. Also, if you say there is some misalignment, it probably is bad enough that he needs the helmet. I have also never heard anyone say they regretted doing it.

We are going though the same thing with both of our boys. It has been getting better but we are going to get a consultation just to see.

    Where in IL :)

I would...my DD is getting her pink and purple bunny helmet in about a week and a half. The doctor said it was severe plagiocephaly. I had to jump through hoops to get my insurance to pay for it because the doctor I went to see is not in network and I don't have out of network benefits. The helmet is 2500 buck which they will pay all of expect 200. I am thrilled!

I would get the referral to a specialist and get his head measured. Depending on how misaligned he really is will determine if you should get a helmet or not. A lot of times the consult is free or not very expensive.
DS head is finally really rounding out and he no longer even qualifies for helmet...I have had him measured at his PT appts every visit and he had always improved so I was more apt to wait and see.
