When babies start to associate words with actions?


The girls are starting to associate the words "I love you" to kisses. I read the book "Guess how much I love you" to them last night and every time I said I love you they both would give me a kiss. Isn't that the sweetest.

 

That is so beautiful! What a wonderful time you must have reading to them. It just proves that reading to them helps them learn. Good Mommy! Cherish this time with them.

 

I kind of have that same question right now. I've always taught my kids the basic baby signs, and for some reason I can't remember when to start. My boys are almost 7 months, and I did start "more" and "all done" last week. They haven't figured it out, yet. But, if I remember at all correctly, I think by 8 months all my others had actions for their meanings.

The kisses meaning I love you is the sweetest. I say get that on video, that's something to cherish.

Its the sweetest thing, just melts my heart.

Its really got me thinking about when babies really start putting actions and words together. I've been trying to teach them bye bye and the wave to go with it and they don't seem to get it. Liberty will say bye bye and Leighanna will wave. I also have been trying to teach then "no", give that to me (holding out my hand). And they just look at my hand and drop what ever they have on the floor. I guess these things might take a little while.

 

I think they start associating words with actions around 1 year of age. That must have been nice getting double sloppy kisses!
