My OB called me repeatedly at work today (I'm a teacher and not easy to get a hold of) and after leaving numerous messages and getting my hubby to call the office, I finally find out that he just received the results of my last ultrasound and is concerned that one of the babies is smaller than the other. I'm 24w4d and my last u/s was at 22 weeks, Baby A was 1 lb 1 oz, and Baby B was 1 lb 6 oz. He is sending me for an ultrasound right away to check growth.

They also said at my last appointment to pay attention to baby movements now that I have been feeling them and I definitely feel more movement on one side than the other. I am so scared that something is wrong with one of the babies :(

    1. Many moms feel one baby more than the other. It's all about their positioning and their placental positioning.

    2. It sounds like they are concerned about IUGR and possibly TTTS. The good news--no, great news, is that your babies are at the age of viability! Do a search on this forum for IUGR--you will find many many success stories, including many ones involving early onset IUGR.

I thought of that because I know I have an anterior placenta. I've consistently felt more movement on one side since I've felt movement.

I read up a bit on IUGR and TTTS since I found out the babies are sharing a placenta but hubby thinks the internet freaks me out too much. Which is probably true.

I also feel more on one side than the other and did my whole last pregnancy. Remember there is a range of accuracy with the estimated weights. Relax, it doesn't help the babies. Let us know what happens. Good luck.

I would say stay away from the internet because you will freak yourself out. The docs suspected growth issues with my girls all the way along and they ended up perfectly healthy. I know it's hard, but try to be patient and see what the next ultrasound brings. If there is trouble, it's good that they catch it early and monitor you all the way along. Hang in there!!

 I hope your US went well. How scary!

As far as movement... I rarely felt my dd. I literally could go at least a few days at a time and not notice her move. She was in a corner while ds took over and was the mover and shaker.

I also agree, stay away from researching on the net.

Hope all went well with the U/S. Like a previous poster said, your twins are viable, so that is good news. You also has a doctor who is on top of things, which is GREAT news. And u/s weight estimates are quite often wrong, so there's a good possibility that they'll find nothing wrong at all. Keep us posted!

I don't know much about TTTS but I do know about ultrasound weights. I was warned of a "big baby" because I was overweight and the ultrasound was showing the baby to be at 7.5 pounds at 37 weeks. I'm short so that is big for me they said. My daughter was born at 40 weeks one day and was 6 lbs 11 oz and long, so she was a string bean and not the chubby baby the ultrasound indicated.

They are estimates taken of a moving target in water, just stay calm and let your doctor take care of you and you will be fine.

FX that everything is ok! If they were equal or close to it, weight 2 weeks ago, I don't see how they could be SO drastically different within 2 weeks where he'd be concerned? But hopefully everything is ok and he's just being over cautious!

I also rarely feel my one twin move as I have an anterior placenta on that side.

It sounds like you have a very proactive doc- which is great! Also, I cannot reiterate enough- u/s can be off. Especially with 2 in there- there is a optimal way to measure and if your babies aren't in that position it can throw measurements off.   Please update us after you know more.

I have 3 older sons so when I thought I had been there done that so many time that my pregnancy should be a piece of cake - I had seen it all! Let me tell you! My twin pregnancy taught me a thing or two or three....... I had no idea they even measured fluid or cared what the baby weighed before it was born I had no idea what a NST was and I thought that a peri was someone only people who were expecting a baby that would be handicapped went to. I was clueless. and my twin pregnancy was really smooth sailing compared to many many women on TS.

My girls were di/di but here is our story
At 28 weeks I went for an appointment and my baby A had not grown since my last appt 2 weeks prior. Also she had a low fluid level and they had to wake her with a buzzer during the ultrasound. I was having contractions but they never affected my cervix. They put me on modified bedrest (I could get up to go to the bathroom, and to my dr appts but I could not do any housework, no cooking or going out to shop or walk) at each visit at that point I went twice a week and I knew that if her fluid level got lower or she did not start to pick up weight they would admit me and take them. Her fluid level never really improved but it did not get worse and she did pick up weight. we made it until 38 weeks.
and the girls were 6.9 and 6.8 pounds

I just wanted to share my experience because I had sort of the same thing happen. I went in for a growth ultrasound to the tech at my docs office and one baby was a lot smaller then the other and my doctor called me and calmly explained it and said I had to go in for another one with a peri. He said these things happen all the time and it was nothing to worry about and that the ultrasound tech in his office probably didn't get a measurement right because of the positioning of the baby at the time and sure enough I went in to the peri and it was exactly what my doc had said. My babies head was way down in my pelvis and they had to recline the table so far back that I thought I was upside down. That babies measurements were way off becuase of that. Try not to worry. Your doctor shouldn't of freaked out like that and made you worry. Good luck with your ultrasound today.
