so does anyone else hate taking their twins to the doctor? does it TOTALLY RUIN your schedule and routine or is it just me?

last night it took over an hour to feed ONE baby 4ounces of formula because his acid reflux was acting up. and again this morning, only 4ounces and one entire hour with still another baby to feed. soooo i call the doctor (currently they are on zantac which is weight regulated) and asked if i could have a nurse or the doctor call me back because the zantac wasn't working and i would like to try prevacid. was that soooooooo difficult to do on their part?? apparently because this just could not be done over the phone, oh no i had to bring the boys in to see the doctor to tell him the exact same thing i told them over the phone. and what did i walk away with a prescription for prevacid that my insurance decided it needed prior authorization from the doctor to find out why it was medically necessary...ummmm wouldn't having a prescription itself be "prior authorization"....UGH! so i had to pay the 200 bucks to get the darn things filled so my kids can eat their food without pain.

but here's the nasty part. they missed a feeding while at the doctor's office (prime reason i HATE going) and when they came home they want nothing to do with eating, all they want to do is cry. i put their bottles near their little mouths and they push it away or go all tight lipped on me and just continue crying. i've tried soothing them but nothing works. they are annoyed, just like their momma.

and guess what? i get to do this all over again tomorrow AND friday. yep...tomorrow i have to take them to get blood work done after i take them with me to my 6 week post op OB appointment and then on friday i have to take them BACK to their doctor for their wellness check up. why they couldn't have just done that today i do not know.

on the plus side they have gained over 24ounces in 13 days and are now over the 8lb mark and i've put them into stage 1 diapers.

Sorry it was a rough day today. At least they are gaining nicely & seem to be doing well (other than the reflux)! I know it's frustrating & tiring hauling two babies to the doctor, do you not have anyone who could come with you & lend a hand?

I didn't mind going to the dr at that age, but now I dread it b/c they hate it. I always just packed a couple bottles with me in case I needed to feed them before or after their appt. I'm sorry the insurance was a pain about the meds! I hope the prevacid works for them!

Try Mylanta. It is completely safe for them to take for a couple of weeks while the Prevacid takes effect. The Prevacid takes up to two weeks before you can tell it's working. Mylanta will work right away and your babies will feel so much better. Get Mylanta Cherry Supreme and give 1/4 tsp 4 hours away from the Prevacid. You can give them Mylanta up to 3X per day.

That sounds like a total PITA, I had the same experience with prior authorization while I was pregnant for anti-nausea meds - I mean, if your doctor prescribes it, shouldn't that be enough? Isn't the doctor prescribing it because, I don't know.. I NEED it?

I agree w/PP that maybe bringing a bottle might help, we did that when we went and the nurses had no problem with our feeding in the exam room.

I hope your week gets better!!

Sorry your day was so crummy. Ugh. I hate doctor days too. We always have to take a bottle with us. Our doctor lets us feed in the exam room if we need to, but they have a really huge practice and can spare the space I guess. Hope the Prevacid works for your LOs. It was a huge help for my DS.

We commandere an exam room if we need it. I don't feel bashful about taking up some space to change their diapers and feed them if they're hungry. The office understands, to the point they even have a lactation room if we want it. We only live about 5min from the office but that's too long when you have two screaming babies in my opinion.

I hope the new medication makes things better!

Taking the twins to the doctor is definitely not at the top of my list of things I like to do! I definitely don't like taking them by myself.

 I hope the prevacid helps your son!

So sorry you had a rough day!! We also had many days like that in the 6months, it was awful and guaranteed two complete meltdown at the drs and all the way home. Reflux is a nightmare i hope it settles down soon for you. After 6months trips to the drs are kind of nice now, providing they are not sick of course. Great news on the weight gain!! Your obviously doing a great job

 Sorry you had such a rough time. I hope today goes smoothly for you. I always used to take bottles of RTF formula with me so that I could feed them either in the exam room before we left or in the parking lot in the car.
