Yesterday I went for my 34 week apt & the dr said he wanted to wait til I am 38 weeks pregnant with my twin girls before he delievers. He said that he'd stop labor up until 38weeks and gave me a date of April 2nd for an induction or csection depending on how the babies are positioned. Has anyone else had to wait that long??? I don't know if I can wait another 4 weeks. I've only gained 26lbs but I have two little ones (Brendan 3 1/2 yo and Riley 13 months) to chase after....Just was curious if anyone else had to wait that long to have their twins...Thanks for reading this!

I don't have any personal experience on this but I am a member of another board which has several members that went to 38-39 weeks with their twins. I don't know if that helps you at all. [IMG]

Yes, I am right there with you. I'm 35 weeks today (although based on my last period I believe I am 36 weeks) and the dr. wouldn't schedule the c-section before 38 weeks. Although, the peri did tell me last week that they wouldn't stop labor if it started at this point.

I have 2 little ones to chase around also; 2 1/2 and 12 months, so I know how you are feeling! It is HARD! This morning I felt like I'd been hit by a truck- it was all I could do to force myself to get up, take a shower and get moving!

Have you had any complications? Have they estimated size for the babies?

    Hang in there!

I don't have any personal experience either...but from everything the moms on this board have said--they regret being so anxious to get the babies out. They really just do better the longer you can cook them (without complications of course). I know I'm going to be completely miserable by the end, but I'm really going to do everything I can to keep them in until 38 weeks. Obviously--so many things are out of our control..but I'm trying to think positive!

My doctor would not stop labor after 34 weeks. But he would not induce/augment labor until 38 weeks. Most of the research that I have read on line in medical journals says that twins do the best when delivered 38-39 weeks gestation---if there are no maternal/fetal complications. Even babies delivered at 37 weeks gestation have more problems. You wouldn't think that only one week makes a difference, but according to the research out there, it does.

The only absolute that was also in these studies is that twins should not be delivered past 40 weeks because they are 2.5 times more likely to die.

Thanks everyone!!! I actually went to my peri apt today for my ultrasound and they told me that the babies look good...but Baby A's stomach is small so she told me I had to REST a lot and that she wants to see me back next week. Now I'm worried about Baby A but she said they're growing good besides that. Baby B was right on track...She did say that they aren't small babies. I believe Baby A was 4lbs 6oz and Baby B was 5lbs 4oz...I'm just going to start trying to relax as much as possible...with my two young ones running around already..and do as little as possible. Other than this I have not had any problems with my pregnancy or the babies...
