Hello. I was wondering how often everyone goes to the doctor. I'm 17wks and I go every four wks, but everything I have read says with twins you visit the doctor every 2-3 wks. Should I ask to doctor to see me frequently?

I think every doc is different, but mine saw me every four weeks until I was 28 weeks. Then it switched to every two until week 34, when it switched to every week. If you aren't having any problems, every four weeks should be enough until later. Hope all is well, Lisa

I'm on an alternating schedule, since I get my u/s in the doc's office.

    doc. appt. - 2 wks later u/s - 2 wks later doc appt - 2 wks later u/s - etc.

So I talk to the doctor every 2 wks, but it's not a full appt. every time. At the appts. they measure my belly and use the doppler for the heartbeats and the doc manually checks the cervix. At the u/s the tech measures the cervix and babies, then the doc reviews the info and asks if I have any questions.

We started this schedule at about 20 wks.

i'm also 17 weeks, lately i've seen the dr every week for the past 3 weeks, but thats just cause i was having issues they thought i had a kidney/bladder infection.. nope.. But anyways... i see my OB once every 4 weeks and my peri once every 4 weeks. When i hit 20 week mark my appts with the ob will go up in frequency to every 2 weeks and once every 4 weeks with the Peri. I had PTL issues with my son at 24 weeks, and i think at twins genearlly they see you more often. I didnt know when my OB would step it up, but she told me last appt she was planning on it. So..

At that point I saw my OB every 4 weeks and my peri every 4 weeks. So I was going just about ever 2 weeks. I think my OB said at 28 weeks I would go every 2 weeks, but sadly I didn't make it that far.

Welcome to Twinstuff and congrats on your twins!

It's varied for me between every 2 weeks and once I went 4 weeks because everything was looking good. If you aren't having any complications that early in the pregnancy you're fine. You'll probably get bumped up to every 2 weeks around 25 weeks or so.

I saw mine every 4 weeks until I was 24 weeks, then it was every 2 weeks. I went to every week at 30 weeks. Like other PP said, it depends on the dr and also on your personal situation. Some people need more frequent checks, others need less. It sounds like you are doing well so far. Keep up the good work.

My mw was going to swap me to every 2 weeks starting at 20 weeks.. but I just had my 19 week and because I am doing so well and not having any problems.. she let me go another 4 weeks. I see the OB at 23 weeks and then will see my mw 2 weeks later.. swapping every 2 weeks until 30 weeks which then be every week.

I went every 4 weeks until 26 weeks
every other week from 26-32 weeks
every week from 32-36 weeks (I had them at 36 weeks)

I never had a problem with this schedule and never had any problems.

I started out going every 3 weeks. At around 20 weeks I started going every 2 weeks. At 27 weeks he moved me to every week due to testing positive for gestational diabetes. I go every week but they are quick visits with a scan every other visit to check on the babies sizes and fluid.

I had 4 week appts until 28 weeks. (and u/s every 4 weeks as well) since 28 weeks I've gone every two weeks. and at 34 I will have appts every week. (for 3 weeks since my c-section is scheduled for 37w5d) I have an u/s every 3 weeks now. I'm not sure if/when that will change.

I have been going every four weeks to see both the peri and obgyn. Becuase of this, I see a doctor every two weeks. Starting at 28 weeks, I will be seeing the doc every two weeks.

Sounds like you are on target with your OB visits. Are you seeing a Perineonatologist-Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist? They do all my ultrasounds and I was referred to them by my OB at my first visit (before we found out we were having tiwns). The Peri-MFM found the second baby and some other complications we would never have known about without seeing him. I love my Peri-MFM!! (It doesn't hurt that he's easy on the eyes too!)

I started with every 4 weeks for my regular OB visits. I saw my Peri-MFM specialist every 3 weeks until 24 weeks when we saw more drastic complications with IUGR blood flow and then went twice a week. I never saw my OB more than once every 4 weeks because I was admitted to the hospital for constant monitoring, so now whatever doctor is on call I see them every day and my Peri-MFM every other day or more.

I started seeing my Peri once a week starting at 19 weeks. When I see my OB varies depending on what happens with my Peri, generally every 2-4 weeks.

Just like several pp's, I was scheduled to see my OB every four weeks from the start and the peri every four weeks starting around 20 weeks. (Pretty much an appt every other week!)

Since we had some complications with PTL last week, I'm not so sure of the schedule anymore. Saw my OB yesterday and everything looked good, so scheduled another appt with him in 2 weeks. I see the peri tomorrow. Depending on cervical length, things might change. I'm on strict home bedrest with a cervix measuring 1.7 cm and Procardia every 4 hours. I'm sure the number of visits will increase since we just got catapulted to high-high risk!! :(

I'm not seeing a Peri. My doctor hasn't mentioned anything about it. And truthfully I had no idea such a person existed until joining this forum. I guess I'm going to ask him about at my next appt.

I am 22 weeks now and my doc sees me every 4 weeks. After 28 weeks, he said he'd see me every 2 weeks. I haven't seen the peri too. When I asked my doc about it, he said he'd refer me to one if needed. But as of now, it's not necessary.
So, I guess it all depends on the doctor and how comfortable they are handling twin pregnancies.
