We went to Cranial Technologies (DOC band) and didn’t get a good feeling about the whole process. We’re seeing our pedi Wed. to get a referral to go to the STAR band folks.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Angela

My son got his helmet 3 1/2 weeks ago and is doing great! We don't have the DOC or STAR, but I just wanted to give you my support... Good luck! Sorry I don't have better advice for those specific bands, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask or PM me.

We just got a hanger band last week so I do not have any experience with either however, I can refer you to a yahoo group that has a ton of info. I think the most important thing is the experience of the orthotist. The yahoo group is great though and you can see if anyone has any experience with a practice in your area. Good Luck! http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Plagiocephaly/

Jen - Angela is in our area! ;)

Angela - I believe there is a good thread on the yahoo group that Jen referred you to that discusses the different practices in the Charlotte area and what folks thought of them.

Good luck with your decision. I am anticipating a referral at our Ped appt tomorrow.

When we went to Cranial Technologies (CT), we got such an icky feeling. It was like going to a used car lot and having the salesman ask us “What’s it gonna take to get you into a helmet today?” It’s debasing enough to have to go thru the process at all, but to have the “technicians” act so crappy, it made for a terrible experience. We’re going to the pedi Wed. to get the referral for the STAR band. I called my insurance (BC/BS) and they said that they did pay for most of the treatments. CT said they wouldn’t even file with BC/BS because they never paid out. Conflicting info, huh.

We are excited to see what our experience will be like at the other place...wish us luck.

BTW – we need to plan a play date it looks like :D

It is funny you say that about feeling like you were dealing with a used car salesman. On the Mothers of Multiples board another twin mom described it the same way. She actually said that at CT they told her both twins needed a helmet but at Hanger they told her only one twin needed one. My feelings were if DS REALLY NEEDED one then I wanted to get one for him but I did not want to get one if there was a chance for it to improve on it's own. Jennifer at Hanger took measurements our first visit. She gave us an appointment 3 and a 1/2 weeks later to see if there was any improvement on it's own. There was no improvement so we decided to go with the helmet. We have Atena and as long as DS's condition met their requirements they paid 100% after we met the deductible. They delt with the insurance for us with out any issues. If you have any questions for me feel free to PM me and yes we all do need to have a play date!
