The boys will be 3 in June and they still cry almost every time they wake up from nap or in the morning. I'm serious! Every blessed time almost. I, personally, think it's a little ridiculous! They do nothing but whine and cry constantly and 1-2-3 Magic isn't working to stop this particular behavior. Any help or at least commisseration?

My DS is just a couple weeks younger than your boys and he still cries when he wakes from naptime. He had been crying in the mornings too--but we are all still in one room while finishing the others so I think that has helped. I agree that it's ridiculous! I don't have any advice on how to stop this (because I can't figure it out). Just know there is at least one other mom going through it too. ;)

I have a 3 YO too and she does this off and on too. Sometimes SHE is the one waking the twins in the morning.

    Hi,

I see you have a new addition, (congratulations!!) any chance the new little one is the cause or has the crying been happening all along?? Also is it only when they wake up, or is it all day?

My younger DS one of the twins cries a lot. Day and always when he wakes up. It really is draining!

I'm not sure why or wha tot do- I tease and say he never wanted to be a twin so he cries... JK!!

I'll be very interested in the other mom's advice.

I would guess they will grow out of it.

My DH always says" don't pick him up, let him cry" I can't- he is just to cute!

    LOL

Do you think that when he wakes up he needs some more sleep? My kids who are not 2 yet do that sometimes when they wake up and but they actually need some more sleep. I hope it get better.

I know you've been struggling with this off an on for a long time. I have no advice, just lots of sympathy, because I know I don't like to wake up to that. sometimes one of mine will wake up from nap or in the morning, and she's whiney. If it's before a certain hour in the morning, i put her back to bed for another hour or 2. but if she wakes up from naptime and she's crabby, I say, go back to bed or get a better attitude. LOL like that helps.
at our house, crabbiness resurfaces when they're going thru a growth spurt. but like i said, it's only sporadic not EVERY time as yours is.

I think the question is "how do you train them to wake up happy?" Ezzo talks about this, anyone have his books???

my sister had a child who did this until she was gone three, maybe even four. their take on it was that she just took a while to adjust to being awake - she was crying, dozy and huggy in their arms for 10 minutes or so and then fine. certainly one of mine is a deep sleeper and tends to wake with a start crying, i tend to think it's the same thing.

My twins are 8 months younger, but my older ds (now 11) had this. No clue why, but all of a sudden he stopped, and I'm sorry to say I don't remember his age then. But it was after he started preschool, which he started at 3.

I have one twin that does, and one that doesn't, unless on the rare occassion he wakes up sick or with a bad dream.

    good luck

Yes, the boys have been this way pretty much most of their lives. I guess I just thought they would have o utgrown it by now. We've moved them to their twin beds and I just assumed they would wake up in the morning and play a bit with their toys or something rather than screaming and crying. Oy. Thanks for the sympathy. Hopefully they'll outgrow it by the time they're 20, but I don't have high hopes :) Their sister, luckily, is a breath of fresh air. At least that reassures me that it's not my lack of parenting skills.

Depending on the nap length/time Jack will. Zack doesn't. If Jack gets less than an hour, he will wake up crying... he sleep walks though... so I think he is just waking up really confused, because he look around the house like he doesn't recognize anything... its wierd.

It happens occasionally and more so at naps than in the morning. I really have no suggestions on how to discourage the behavior. Maybe you can try talking to them before they go to sleep and just remind them that they don't need to cry when they wake up, and to just call for you and you will come. Good luck and I hope they outgrow it soon!

Right there with you girl. My guys are a little younger but they too have done this their entire lives. Part of it is that they usually tee-tee so much that they are soaked through when they wake up (we are in a size 6 at night time  ) and Jonah is not a good morning person because he sleeps so deeply. We don't dare wake Jonah. He must wake on his own or you are guarenteed to have a horrible morning. I've just recently gone back to changing the boys in the middle of the night to ward off the morning soak but even that doesn't always work. I just wish that we could get up, get dressed, and get our milk/breakfast. I'm fine with them being in a pissy mood, but just want the volume to be a little lower than screaming and crying. :D

One thing we've done is give our girls sippy cups in bed. I think since they can drink they don't wake up with that moody dehydrated feeling as much, which cuts down on the crying. I'm not sure if you've already tried this but I just thought I'd mention it since it has worked for us. And oh yes, we have separated our girls into their own rooms which has helped tremendously. They get better sleep and they don't bother each other as much.

I don't have advice for you. I am in the same boat and not sure what to do about it. I am so tired of waking up to crying. Wouldn't the day start so much better to smiles and laughs instead? sigh...

My dd was doing this forever until finally I did one of two things. Either I waited for about 5-10 minutes to see if she calmed down on her own OR if that didn't work, I went over to her and said, Oh, you are crying? That's no fun. I'll come back when you have stopped crying and then I walked out. If they still cried for another few minutes I would go back in and say You are still crying? Let me know when you are ready. I'm not taking you out of bed until you stop crying and give me a smile. And then leave again. I did this for several days and eventually it stopped completely! That's just what worked for us. If it can help you, great. If not, sorry and I hope you find a way to deal with it. It is truly annoying to wake up to crying babies. BTDT.

Oh I'm so glad this was posted! My DS wakes from EVERY nap in tears and crying, regardless of length. He was colicky as a newborn, and also I had to do major CIO with him to be a good napper (which is usually is now), so I figured it was just his personality.

I will try some of the tips in the pp when he is a little older. Glad to know I'm not alone.
