Do your toddlers know their siblings names?

Both DD and DS know their big brother by name and they can say it, it sounds more like Ick than anything. DD will say Nevan's name but I don't think he knows his sisters name? Is it strange? He knows the names of the cats and dogs but when you ask him, he gives you a big blank stare. If you tell him give Norah a kiss, he doesn't do it but if you say, "Give your sister a kiss" he will.

They definitely call each other by name, and also call each other sissie. Any cousin they see frequently they know by name too, plus they know their daddy's name because I call him by name pretty often. But I don't think they know my name because DH always calls me sweetie. :)

Ours started really saying them at two. Although all four call eachother Sissy, they can say their names when pointing to eachother.

For a while both boys would refer to themselves and each other as 'Nicky'. Nick finally started to call Joe (pronounced 'Go') by his correct name about 2-3 months ago. Joe finally started to refer to himself as Joe (also pronounced 'Go') just in the last week or so. Joe still occassionally calls himself 'Ni-EEE', but I think the "oh, yeah, I'm JOE" thing finally clicked for him.

They also have easily identified our two cats, and grandma's two cats by their proper names for at least 6 months. They can identify many family members (even those they see only once a month or so), yet cannot seem to tell one another apart in pictures with any regularity (I assume when they guess right it is exactly that....a guess). They are identical, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

That's interesting - Do you refer to her more as your sister than Norah?

Hannah can say Rachel, but not Natalie. Natalie doesn't say Hannah or Rachel yet, but I think they do both know both sisters' names.

I know I call her Sissie to both boys but I'm constantly saying "Norah get down"; "Norah don't climb that"; "Norah, you just ate." I may constantly say "Your sister" to him.

This is just a funny story...My brother and I are only 13 months apart so we were in the same class at school, shared friends etc. Well we called each other Brother and Sister until we were about 8 or 9 years old. I honestlt thought it was his name I argued with my 3rd grade teacher when she called him Dillon, that was not his name! Even now we use them as terms of endearment to each other...Love Sister

Lauren will called Mattie 'Mamat' when talking to her or if she is asked where is Mattie? Mattie calls Lauren and herself 'sis'. Go figure?

DD says DS' name and my older 2 DD's names. She also calls them "sissy", too. DS calls all 3 girls "sissy" despite my trying to teach the actual name.

Yes, they call each other by their names. I think they started around 20 months or so?

Amy said Sarah's name at about 16 months, before she said her own. Sarah called herself "Lala" a few months before she called Amy anything, but since about 22 months she's been calling Amy "Mimi." (And for some reason she gave up on "Lala" and now calls herself "Wahwa" -- she still can't say S.)

We never use "your sister" or "sissie" -- it just sounds funny to me.

They can also usually recognize themselves in baby pictures -- they looked nothing alike even then!

Just recently within the last 3/4 months they started calling each other by name and in the last two weeks they talk about theirselves in third person which I am trying to stop. Evan says his name as Ed-nan as does his brother when he call him. Ian says his name but Evan, for some odd reason, calls him "Igie" or "ED" DH and I cannot figure out what he is calling him even when I say what is your brother's name. He says his words fine and did say Ian in the beginning, can't figure out that one...

At about 16-17 months, DS began calling Amelia, "Mimi." Well, that stuck. When you ask Amelia what her full name is. She answers with a laugh...MiMi Mireille XXX. And I don't really remember how this came about but she calls DS, "Bubee." Now, if someone asks DS what his name is...he gives them his full name which includes 2 middle names.

Mine mostly call each other Sissy because DH and I say it a lot. Madison will call Alina by name or something like it, Alina doesn't say Madison too much, when she does, it comes out more like MadMad. Madison knows her name, a couple of weeks ago, I picked them up from the sitter's and she comes running up to me and says, "Mommy, mommy, I Madison." Too cute!

They call each other "sissy".....it's so cute when they do that....the girls at their daycare said that when they wake up from their naps (they somehow get them all to sleep on cots!!) they wake up looking around saying "sissy, sissy"!!! That just melted my heart!!!

They call each other by the right name and even, on occasion, by the family nicknames: tal-tool and maia-le. They've been doing this for a while. Oddly in the past month or so, when they see pictures of themselves (regularly as 'my pictures' are the screensaver on the computer) they correctly identify their sister (father, mother, grandparents etc) but call themselves by their sister's name as well. They used to be able to name themselves but seem to have stopped.

I have an Amelia too and even though they aren't saying each others' proper names yet, I always tell DH that I know she will be Mimi. Amelia is just too hard for little ones. For now, he calls her "sissie", which sounds more like "shishie"

G does not use either of her sisters names, C calls both her sisters "yel-yow" which we think is her way of saying Gabrielle?, E knows both her sisters names but uses both names for both of them (ie sometimes G is C & sometimes she G & same for C). E does not know her name though... If you ask her her name she'll answer one of her sisters names but if you ask if her name is Elizabeth she'll point to herself & say Beth (but she doesn't answer to Beth  ) I've been told this is somewhat common for multiples up to age 3 so I'm just riding it out.
