Do your kids eat burgers?

Neither of mine will come anywhere near a hamburger or cheeseburger. It was such a huge relief to me when Amy at least started eating hot dogs last summer! There's still essentially nothing at a barbecue that Sarah will eat, except dessert (and occasionally a hot dog bun, if she's really hungry).

Anyway, just curious if mine are weird about that, or if it's normal for them not to like burgers at this age.

When they were about 1 1/2, I started giving them veggie burgers. I put a slice of cheese on top, no bread. They love them! But, they will not eat a real cheeseburger for the life of them! So weird!

mine love scostco hot dogs. Buurgers, not yet. My dd had a little bit on one yesterday for the first time. She didn't want to even try it but I told her if she took one bite, she could have the ice cream we were having for dessert. She ended up eating the whole portion I had put on her plate. (about 5 bites) I had to hold it for her to eat but she ate it up.

Mine love gardenburgers w/mushrooms and swiss (no bun).

They love to eat any kind of sandwich/wrap/burger we might be eating, but if we handed them one (even in miniature) they simply excavate it eating each portion separately (and some not at all). Frankly, they do the same thing with a PB, tuna, or egg salad sandwich. They are getting better about 'just eat it like a sandwich', but they aren't completely there yet.

However, mine will happily eat any BBQ fare if I slice it up (hot dog, hamburger, etc). I think the bun makes it just too much...their bite radius leaves them with a mouthful of only bun each time.

Joel LOVES them- I made some homemade hamburger patties one night, and DH accidentally gave Joel his over quarter pound burger instead of the smaller patties I made up for the boys. The kid almost ate the entire thing! Bryan will eat them, but I don't think he gets all that excited about them....

Marcus eats them, Jonathan will not. I finally got Jonathan to eat a chicken patty on a bun (great since at camp that is a choice he gets for cookouts), and he still won't eat a hot dog either. Up until this year, when we went to BBQ's, I would get him cheese on a roll, and he ate that (ask anyone who went to the SP gathering last year :)) Before I could get him to do that, I would bring the fixings for a PB&J.

does mcdonalds count? my son eats the burger there, and he eats sandwiches properly as well. He doesn't get through the whole thing of course, but he gives it a try.. he is very adventurous though.. he'll try almost anything if he feels like it. DD.. no way! But she loves hot dogs, so we are fine there.

Mine will eat meatloaf if I cut it into small bites, and they like the Amy's California (veggie) burgers with no bun -- I have to cut those up, too. They haven't figured out the whole bite-into-a-sandwich thing yet. But, I remember Nadia didn't eat sandwiches until she was at least 3.

We tried McDonald's cheeseburgers once, and they wouldn't go near them. They don't care much for chicken nuggets, either. I have to admit I'm kind of pleased that they don't like fast food! Less temptation to feed it to them. :D

Oh yes.....they ask for cheeseburgers all the time!! It drives me crazy. McDonalds is their favorite place to go (we go on special occasions)and they like it when we make burgers. It is on of the only meats one of my DDs eat...besides tacos. Weird, but it works.

They both also eat hotdogs (cut up) and sandwiches.

Yes (but then they'll eat almost anything). They like the bun, tomato, lettuce, and onion but will often take it apart and eat each part separately.

My kids won't touch anything like that. Mostly b/c they rarely see it but even when we do offer it, they won't have anything to do with it. Same with nuggets, pizza, etc. Basically, anything that you can find at a fast food resturant, they won't eat. It has to be homemade and prepared by me or the they won't eat it!

My girls just started eating hamburgers...however, for some reason they only like mommy's burgers. :D We tried a Mc Donalds burger once and they did not like it!

None of my children will go near a burger. Hot dogs all the way at a BBQ.

My kids LOVE hamburgers. I think they see it as another type of sandwich. I put mayo, mustard and pickles on it and they are happy! They are not chicken eaters though, they nibble and taste it but not a big hit. We haven't done hot dogs only because I am not a big fan ( I can eat one here or there but not all the time) so we won't be trying them anytime soon. Oh and I give them ketchup right on their trays to dip their burgers in if I didn't put the other stuff on.

Surprisingly enough, they did the other day! I'm not holding my breath for the next try (they are after all two and what you think is their favorite one day...won't be touched the next!)

I ordered them cheeseburger sliders and chicken sandwich sliders at Friendly's the other day, after Ellie'd taken a bite of my Quarter Pounder a few weeks before and said "Like it!" Searra hadn't wanted anything to do with it (thus the chicken order) and they both inhaled the cheeseburgers (didn't touch the old standby chicken )

The sliders were the perfect size for them.

    ETA some missing words...

Yes, but I usually need to cut it into a couple pieces, unless it was small to begin with.

Mine LOVE cheeseburgers! Morgan can wolf one down in like 30 seconds if she is hungry! They LOVE ones from any fast food restaurant, but not big fans if I make them at home. I think they like the restaurant ones b/c they are thin patties and easy to chew. But, they do like when I make meatloaf...one of their faves!

John liked them when he was really little but then hated them. He just started liking them again (and he is going to be 7!). Kevin and Patrick only like BK or MickyDs and I usually only buy one and they share it. :)

Hannah loves "hangaburgers," probably her favorite food next to burritos. Ben would eat one if that was his only choice, but they are not his favorite.

Nope, not really. I tried homemade burgers and tried to make them super thin but they don't seem to care for the texture at this point. I also did McDonalds Cheeseburgers for a while (once a week) but now they won't eat them and they will only eat the chicken nuggets. I did get them to eat my lasagna two nights in a row (they devoured it) so I think they tend to like the meat when it's mixed with other things (although I did make it with turkey meat not beef). Other than that, Lorien will not eat meat. Sometimes if I disguse it in cous cous or something I can get her to eat it but overall I think she's just not much of a meat eater (other than chicken nuggets). I often believe she will be a vegetarian but she doesn't like vegetables so I guess she will be a fuititarian?

My guys love cheeseburgers, but not until recently. It makes it nice to have another option when we go out to eat besides just chicken nuggets.

OK, glad to hear my kids aren't that weird. Sarah really doesn't eat meat at all (her protein sources are eggs and yogurt), so I guess it's not too surprising. And neither of them are really into sandwiches. Sarah will eat grilled cheese as a sandwich -- Amy pulls it apart and scrapes off the cheese with her teeth. They won't eat pb&j or any other kind of sandwich that I know of.

I hadn't thought of trying to make smaller burgers, though. (We rarely do McD's or other fast food, but we do homemade burgers and things like brew pubs.) Maybe I'll give that a shot with Amy this summer.

Yep, I think this about Sarah too. She's an ovo-lacto-fruiti-carbo-tarian.

All of my kids will eat burgers, but as a pp said, they mainly only like McDs or other fast food ones. . Im assuming b/c they are so thin. When I make them at home, (and Ive tried to make thin ones) they will eat some, but I guess its bigger and tougher meat, so they are less than thrilled. My 4 yr old LOVES burgers and EVERYTIME we go ANYWHERE that is what she wants to eat. Its a good thing we dont go out much! ;)

ETA all of mine except my 5 yr old still take sandwiches apart if it is just a regular meat/cheese type of sandwich, but they usually do pretty good at keeping their burgers together.

One does, one doesn't....he prefers hot dogs. The one who does will not eat a Burger King one though.
