Do your identical twins look exactly alike?

    Hi,

For those mothers out there with identical twins, did they look exactly alike from the beginning? Mine are supposedly identical twins, but they don't look exactly alike. Is that possible? I was thinking maybe they look different because Baby B had a 2-vessel cord or TTTS...

    Thanks!

They never looked alike to me, but people always asked me how I'm telling them apart. Now they look different to everybody as well.

I don't think ours look exactly alike. Tessa's head has always been rounder than Regan's. I can easily tell them apart, but others can't. It is more difficult to tell them apart when they aren't side-by-side and in pictures that you haven't seen in a while. I think they are easier to tell apart now than when they were newborns.

I don't think ours are exactly alike - neither does anyone else who is around them regularly...that being said, DH will confuse them everyonce in a while, and like PP I have a hard time looking back at pictures and knowing who is who if I didn't mark them...Dylan is a good 2 lbs heavier than Tyler which causes a change as well - and I think they have totaly different expressions out of the same features...ours also had TTTS at birth, although showed no signs of it during my pregancy.

I never thought Nicole and Danielle looked alike although everyone else did. Now that I look back at pics though it is hard to tell who is who. But at the time I just didn't understand that they were identical. I thought it was a mistake. Their own dad couldn't tell them apart unless he knew who was wearing what or looked at the back of their heads (their swirls were on opposite sides) but Mom and me could always tell them apart.

As with so many ids, ours were of a significant discordance at birth--they were a pound and a half apart, so that made it really easy in the beginning. Reese's face is more round than Riley's. Like the prior posts, I have never had a huge problem telling them apart, although others have. We think they look alike, but yet very different--if that makes any sense at all! I've also had problems with picture though if I don't mark them right away.

Mine look totally different to me, but everyone else has difficulty telling them apart. My bigger twin is about 2 pounds bigger though, has more hair, and has a rounder head so I think that's why I don't think they look ID. [IMG]

I see where my girls look alike, but I also see all the differences. No, I don't think they are exactly alike. Lilly's head is longer and Kate's is rounder (maybe because Lilly was vaginal and Kate was a section.) Kate's eyes are also more almond-shaped. (A friend of mine, who is Chinese, says Kate has slanty eyes like her! [IMG]) Kate's cheeks are bigger.

But no one who doesn't spend a ton of time with them sees most of this. You tell me what you think! http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l284/ogi...anta_060001.jpg

Mine pretty much look exactly alike. My A.J. has a skinnier face and that's whta we tell people if they ask how we tell them apart.

My girls had acute TTTS so their color was a huge difference at birth. Literally, dark red and pale white.

I think they look pretty different. Their head shapes are distinct. Sam's head is thinner and taller (baby a's head got a little more "smooshed" I think). Syd's head is wider and rounder.

Some people think they look exactly alike. Others don't believe me that they are identical.

    Whatever........

IMO, mine never looked much alike. Even now, at 3.5 years, they look entirely different. Other people, especially strangers, think they look totally alike though.

BTW, my small baby had a 2-vessel cord and was the donor twin for TTTS so she has always been a little smaller than her sister. That weight difference made a big difference in their looks for the 1st year.

mine had TTTS also, so maybe that plays a part? at first we thought it would be hard to tell the diffence but now everyone who is around them can tell them apart. when the are seperate it can get a little more difficult.

Ours look exactly alike! My husband can't tell them apart at all, and sometimes even I get them mixed up, and I'm with them 24/7! They are always within 2 oz weight-wise, and the exact same length! They both even have the same eye with a clogged duct!!! Really, the only major distinguishing feature is Katie's birthmark on her left butt cheek. If not for that, I'd be scared we'd mix them up for good.

Thanks so much, everyone! I questioned if my babies were really identical because they had a difference in weight and length and had some differences in appearance like many of you. However, like many of you, they look very much alike in pictures that if I don't label them right away, I wouldn't be able to distinguish who's who. For instance, I don't know who's who in the birth pictures that my hubby took. Anyway, thanks so much!

My identical twin girls looked exactly alike when they were born. They are now 7 months and have some differences. One is a little lighter than the other and one has a birth mark on her forhead. The mark was always there, but has become more pronounced with age.

Their father, who stays at home with them during the week still can't tell them apart!

Lastly, Kylie is crawling and Kennedi is not so that makes it easy - she never stays still!

Ours are fraternal girls, but DH's brother has 18 yo identical girls. Looking at their baby pictures, it is very hard to tell them apart. Their mom always could but others would get them mixed up. As they have gotten older, more differences have become evident. One is taller and a little heavier than the other. It also helps that one is a tomboy and the other is a girly-girl.

I have ID girls and when they were born it was very hard to tell them apart. Liberty had more hair at birth so we had to keep hats off to tell who was who, thank God it was summer. [IMG] Now that they are 7 months I don't think they look alike at all, but I have stargers telling me they are ID and asking how I tell them apart.

I agree...I have always thought that my girls looked different, but everyone else can't tell them apart. Claire has a longer head and Ellie's is rounder. Also Claire has a stork bite on her head...that makes it easier for people.

I was told mine were ID but never had the testing done, so Im really not sure. To some they look exactly alike but not to me...they look so different to me. There are alot of simularities like same hair, eye color, eyebrows are the same on both...but B has a dimple, M doesnt. There is also a 3 lb wieght difference and probably 3-4 inch diff as well. When I look back at baby pictures M always looks like B did a month prior. M also has a birthmark but B doesnt

I can tell my boys apart. But nobody else can, not even DH sometimes. Jared's eyes changed colour before Peter's did but that was only for 2 weeks then Peter's turned as well.
