My children turned 3 in april and still have a nap most afternoons. I put them down and they still sleep for 2 hours without a fuss. Is anyone elses 3 year olds still having naps? If so for how long? I dont know i f i should make them stop their naps as they may only be doingn it out of habit or should i let them continue and tell me when they are ready? What do you guys think? x

my girls BOTH napped for 1-2 hours at ages2- 3. around 3.5 one dropped the nap. Now as we approach age 4--naps are 1-2 times weekly for one DD and none for the other. They both sleep 11-12 hours a night (7-630ish).We do a 1- 1.5 hours 'down time' from 12:30- every day. They usually read/rest, talk to their stuffed friends.

Depends on your kids really....at age 3-4 they need a total of 10-13 hours sleep (vary by kids).

Mine still napped regularly (2-3 hours on weekends, less at school) when they turned 3. Sarah would still probably nap at 3y8m, but Amy started fighting the naps really hard around 3y3m. After a month or so, it was stressing me out too much to fight with her about it, so I gave in. And when Amy stopped napping, Sarah did too.

Of course they still nap at school (most of the time), which means they're still up till 9 nearly every night, even though they don't nap on weekends. Worst of both worlds! :umm:

Enjoy it while it lasts! Contrary to what you might gather from the "my kids won't nap" posts on this board, most kids still need naps until age 4 (and a few until 5) although they may soon stop taking a nap every day.

My guys nap most days and they definitely still need it. On the days they don't nap, they have some time in their beds chatting away because I want to maintain the expectation that they will try to nap. On those "no nap" days, they go to bed earlier but the second half of the day is horrid and bedtime is an exercise in patience with tears flying over nothing. We're also likely to get sleep disturbances on those nights. And yes, perhaps they would sleep longer at night and get used to it eventually but I'd rather wait until they're really ready and it's not such a difficult transition even if that means our days aren't as predictable as they once were.

mine still nap 2-3 hours every afternoon - but they go to bed at 9 ish and are up by 7...I don't stress about "scheduling" it though - if we have somewhere to go they'll nap in the car till we get there and then are usually ok even if its only a half hour or so...

If it's not broke, don't fix it!!!

mine are 3.5 and still nap almost everyday for about 1.5 hours.

My 1st dd napped everyday for about 2 hours right up until the day before she went to kinder.

Mine will be 4 in Sept and still nap almost every day. When they don't they are CRANKY! For Anna, naps are about 1.5 hours, but Ian could sleep for 3 if Anna would let him (and it doesn't mess with bedtime). I dread the end of naps!

My oldest napped until she headed off to Kindergarten. I can tell even now she could use one now and again. The twins stopped napping right before their 3rd b-day. I so miss naps!!!

No naps since about 2 here. They were staying up until 9 or 10 and I am done by that time of day!

We stopped naps at 3 because their bedtime was getting later & later. It helped for awhile, but betime can still be a challenge. They do need naps sometimes, but getting them to take naps now is like pulling teeth.

Mine still nap and they will be 4 next week. If they still need to nap, let them. Enjoy the time!

Mine will be three next week and still need and take naps. My 5 yr old was still taking naps up until June when school let out. He's in the 'school age' room at daycare now and they dont take naps. He is BEAT everyday after school now, and falls asleep on the way home.

:shok: Ok, I replied to this topic already, but I have THREE napping kids right now. DD was sooo tired so I put them both in their beds and they were out within 10 minutes. WOW! Shocker! Bedtime tonight ought to be fun.

I thought I was the only one who doesn't have the consistent nap schedule. My son, Justin quit at 2 yrs old while my daughter, Rianna still nap for up to 2 hours. The good news is they both don't fight in bed and go sleep right away, thank goodness!

    My thoughts exactly. :good:

Mine are three and nap everyday. My ds naps 2.5-3 hours and dd naps about 1.5 hours. Without a nap they only do good if we are out and about, if we're at home it's  time here.

My girls napped until 5 and even after that they will still nap every now and then. As long as it's not effecting your bedtime routine then I would keep letting them nap until they fight it.

All three of mine still take a nap. My DD will be 5 in September and my boys are 3.5. Our schedule is real off this summer, but they are usually down for 2 hours. I call it "Quiet Time" for my DD, but she usually falls asleep at least half way through.

Mine stopped napping around age 3. They will occasionally take one, but really if they nap it just makes for a painful bedtime.

Mine still naps regularly at 3 1/2. I think the longer they can nap without effecting the bedtime routine, the better. Our daycare encourages naps until age 5.

My girls aren't napping much, but I'm sure it will change when their siblings go back to school and we have early wake ups again. However my other two dropped their naps around age 4. I would definitely agree with pps who said that as long as it isn't affecting bedtimes then don't worry about them still napping. Enjoy the silence! ;)
