We have never (or rarely) wiped for pee diapers, and have never had a problem with diaper rash. Having said this, we also bath the babies every night. Just curious what works for everyone else?

I voted Yes, always, but.... once in a while I don't, if I'm in a rush or the wipes aren't close by, or something. The majority of the time, I do a quick wipe swipe after a pee change, though!

I wipe every time no matter what's in the diaper. IMO it's bad enough they have to be in diapers all day in their pee, so when I change them I wipe them clean. I also give my girls bath's every night as well.

Always! I feel they are not clean otherwise.

Nope unless it was super wet, baby urine is actually very sterile (they only drink breastmilk or formula) and it's near as acidic as our pee ;)

Never had any probs with diaper rash other than my ds, which was caused from cheapie wipes, which I never bought again! :)

I don't wipe them for just a pee all the time. If it's been awhile since their last change (such as overnight or if we've been out and I haven't had a chance or place and they've gone longer than normal) I will, but for normal changes I don't.

When DS had a really bad rash, our pedi nurse actually said to stop using wipes on him and to just dry his bottom.

I wipe 98% of the time. The other 2% I feel really bad. It is usually because the wipes just ran out or they are getting super WWF baby on me and it is just easier to close the diaper up and go. As I am doing this I am usually thinking, "and the winner of the bad mommy award goes to....."

I wipe them everytime. They way I look at it, I wipe everytime I pee. Why wouldn't I wipe them? I also bathe them everynight.

I would say about 50/50. That wasn't an option, so I didn't vote.

I have never wiped a pee diaper. Only once have they gotten diaper rash and that was from Target diapers. Mind you, my boys poop 5-6 times a day each, so it's very rare that I'm changing a pee only diaper. We also go against the norm and bathe every other night. Occasionally we'll go two nights w/out a bath. Hmm...me and my dirty boys!

I wipe for a pee diaper. My DD is prone to diaper rash, so I definitely have to do that for her. My DS is not prone to diaper rash, but it's such a habit now, I wipe him for all pees too. Probably why we should own stock in wipes!!!

We only wipe for a pee explosion diaper. Our doctor told us that wiping after every diaper change leads to diaper rash. Lily had such bad diaper rash in the first two weeks of life that she had raw spots on her butt. The doctor asked if we were using wipes with pee diapers and when I said yes he said that was probably why she kept getting diaper rash so bad. We changed our ways and now we only get occasional redness.

I work with newborns and we usually don't wipe after pee diapers. Baby wipes are actually rough on baby's skin and can break it down faster. Just my 2 cents...

I voted yes since we use mostly cloth. ;)

However, when in disposibles I still wipe for pee diapers. Probably mostly habit but then again it just seems cleaner.

I voted yes, but that's as long as the baby does not have a diaper rash. If the baby has a diaper rash then I only wipe for #2.

frankly the poll should break it down by gender. with boys i don't wipe after every pee diaper. if it's a full diaper, like overnight, i do a quick wipe. otherwise no. diapers are so absorbant that i rarely find their skin damp at a diaper change. the pampers swaddlers, at least, are really good at locking away the urine so that it's not in contact with their skin.

however, if i had girls i would definitely wipe the genitals every time. it's just a different structure and i would want to make sure everything was clean amongst the folds.

more than anything their skin needs to be dry, and wiping down with a wet wipe and cramming them back into a diaper isn't conducive to good healthy skin. i also only use the sensitive wipes because they don't need detergents and perfumes. i'm a stickler for skin care and used to make and sell my own natural soaps and bath products so it's a big issue for me.

I almost never use wipes for pee diapers, but I do let my girls air dry before I put a new diaper back on. We were advised not to use wipes much while the girls were in the hospital (for the same reason as other people have said - the wipes are actually harsh on their skin). We've had one diaper rash issue in 19 months, and our pedi advised us to cut out wipes altogether and use wet paper towels or wash cloth instead. We did that and the rash cleared up immediately. Once the rash was gone, we switched back to using hypoallergenic wipes for poop diapers, but never for pee.

I also almost never use a wipe for pee for my daughter for the same reason others have stated. Natalie has never had a diaper rash and she's almost seven months old and the twins rarely had rashes.

Sorry, I'm going to duck in here! I voted yes both my Son and Daughter would get a little red and irritated. So, it's a good practice to keep them a little fresh. That's my .03 (inflation)! :winking:

I didnt wipe pee diapers for the boys unless they were really really wet. That being said if I had a girl I would probably wipe all the time.

I don't understand how using a wipe would cause a diaper rash? Like I posted earlier, I use a wipe everytime, regardless or pee or poop. One of my girls has had one diaper rash and they are 7.5 months old. Maybe it's just my kids but using wipes has not caused any diaper rashes. No matter how dry their little regions are when I change them, they still have lingering pee on them and that's just not very pleasant if you ask me. ;)

There are alot of chemicals in baby wipes. If they have sensitive skin, it can definately cause a rash. Several posters sais "I wipe everytime, so I wipe them everytime." The difference is that adults usually only use unscented, dry TP, not chemical-laden cotten baby wipes.

Your boys poop 5-6 times a DAY?? wow...

edited to add: I don't wipe that often anymore, although the kids are becoming potty aware and Becca will wipe herself sometimes. We do go through tons of wipes for hands and stuff.

I clean myself... I clean my children. I do not use "chemically laden wipes", just water and cloth. I do bathe my children often - almost every night (unless they fall asleep early, nothing like trying to bathe an angry gnome!)

I did until recently - now with the pullups I just pull one off and put on a fresh one - unless of course its poop laden!

I voted yes. The only time I don´t is when DS has his first bottle in the morning as it´s cold and the wipes are cold too! The rest of the day I do wipe him down. DD gets cold wipes as DH changes her! LOL! Mine get a bath very day.

And my girls get baths every other night and occasionally I will put that off a day since one has extremely dry skin.
