do you use tylenol or motrin?

we have shots coming on thursday, what do you all think works better? i have both but cant decide which to use!

 

Pedi told us no motrin until at least 6 months. We haven't had reason to use anything since then so I have never tried the motrin. Babies like the taste of the tylenol (we have used it for teething). Not sure how well it works, though.

 

I've only used tylenol so far. Shots are fast and the discomfort seems fairly short. We'll use tylenol right beforehand.

This is true. I would recommend using Tylenol only until after 6 months. I hope shots go well.

 

mine were both miserable after their shots at 4 months, i was reading what the doctor plans to do this time and its almost the same so im counting on a pretty crappy day. last time they both cried for hours in my lap, it suckeddddd

I read this in another post but I'd never heard that before joining here. I wonder why.

I like Motrin for it's anti-inflammatory properties and how long it lasts - especially for teething and ear infections. I use Tylenol mainly for when I'm switching between Tylenol & Motrin to combat a fever. We were told not to use Motrin for 2 weeks before N&M's tube surgery this Friday but I forgot to ask why.

If they are really fussy and the shots bother them a lot I would use motrin. I have used both and motrin seems to help my little ones more.

I've always just used tylenol too, because I know they handle it well. But at their 4 month check up the pedi said motrin was safe now that they are 4 mos.

We were instructed to give Tylenol or Motrin 1/2 hour before the shots and then every 4 hours after - I did this for the next day/day and a half depending on how they acted. Also make sure to find our the correct dosage. I was surprised how much the dosage changed between 2 & 4 mos and then again at 6 mos.

Ibuprofen (motrin, advil) and naproxen (aleve) can cause problems with blood clotting and cause excess bleeding during surgery.

We always use Tylenol with shots. And we were also told no motrin until after 6 months. The couple of times we've used it, I haven't noticed much difference in pain relief, and my kids hate the flavor.

 

Our Ped did not recommend Motrin until after they were 6 months. I only have used it for fevers and teething. I still use Tylenol before and after vaccines. Just did for my 4 YO today. I think it works fine and you can give it more often if needed.

I was told no motrin until after 6 months so I gave a dose of tylenol or they can give one at the visit. I still generally give Tylenol for shots and use motrin when I alternate with Tylenol for bad fevers.

ETA: I think it is approved to technically use younger but was told because it is harsher on the tummy to wait.

 

I use tylenol I heard some bad things on mortin from someone they said they heard it caused some sorta illness I don't know the whole story but I'm just gonna stick with tylenol

The reason is because Motrin (for a short while after taking it) can slow your blood clotting. So, you shouldn't use it when you are having any type of surgery.

It does say, right on the box, not to be used for less than 6 mos of age. My pedi said not to use it, even though I had already bought it (I didn't pay attention to the box), and they gave me 2 free samples of the baby tylenol, they were 1/4 FLOZ bottles.

 

I use Tylenol prior to the shots. We did not try Motrin until after 6 months and use that every once in a while.
