Do you use breakable plates & glasses

Maybe my kids are just really inquisitive (yes, that is a good word, I was also thinking of other words to use but I think this is the nicest one). I went to a mom's group today and the lady was serving snacks and drinks on breakable plates and delicate water glasses - like WTH!!?? Well, I basically had to leave shortly afterwards because my kids couldn't handle being that close to those "restricted" items without wanting to touch and hold them - which would have been fine if I had one child like everyone else, but because I have two it was literally driving me insane!! I left and I was nearly in tears, not only did she have all those breakable things, she has a stove and oven that is within the kids reach with all of the gas knobs easily accessible to the kids - so I really felt I had to leave before a major accident happened (all the other moms are sitting around on the couch chatting and I am following my kids around her house making sure they dont get into trouble). Are my kids just really busy bodies?? Are they abnormal? Why the heck dont my kids just sit there and play in the play area like most of the other kids???.\
Somedays are bad days, and I guess today is one of them, I just feel like I can't do it another day, I feel like I give up nearly my entire life to my children. ugh : (

No, it's just that it's much easier to keep an eye on one child than two... Quite sure my two would be all over the place too (just at the doctor I had to stop them from living the waiting room about 10 times each... in 5 minutes).

They sound normal to me.  My two would have been all over the place at that time too. I'm surprised (whether it's one kid or two) that she's use breakable plates with toddlers. :umm: I wouldn't trust them.

She's a brave woman. We only use our breakable plates & glasses when the kids are restrained in their feeding seats. Them roaming the house or sitting our laps, we have to be quick on the draw to get the plates & glasses out of their way. Isis, I would have been doing the same following my kids everywhere, they are way too curious for their own good. I went to a baby shower and I think I spent most of the time follow my kids around making sure that mass chaos did not result.

The one time (against better judgment) I let Jackson drink from a small glass cup, he finished it, then hurled it full-force across the kitchen! Broken glass everywhere. Never again, at least not in toddlerhood!!

Sounds normal to me! I am pretty sure if I allowed my girls near anything breakable, I would have the same result Erin did. It is so hard chasing after two!

I think this is the issue! It's amazing how much less dangerous things are when there is one adult to watch each child.

Actually, we do use breakable plates and glasses and I think did at that age, but somehow it was different in our own house. For one thing, the kids couldn't reach the dining room table until they were somewhat older! But even when we had them on coffee tables & things, the danger was not so much that they would break something, but that they would pick up (say) a bowl full of hummus and spread hummus all over the couch. :D

At other people's houses, I was constantly worried about them breaking something. And mine are not very inquisitive/adventurous -- I can only imagine what it would be like with two who are. You're not crazy! But it does get better!

They sound normal to me but then again maybe the host has taught her kids not to touch things. I was talking with Josh's therapist and she told me about her friend who refused to put anything breakable away when they had kids. Her kids knew that they were not allowed to touch certain things. She said she hates going over to their house because her own kids don't understand that they can't touch things and she spends the night trying to keep her kids from breaking everything in sight.

I know some people who refuse to babyproof for the same reason.

To me, it sounds like an accident waiting to happen.

How old were her kids? I've been to many homes where the kids are either older (4ish) or younger (not crawling) and the parents don't see the need to babyproof which I completly understand.
