Do you use a nursery monitor?

I'm still in the planning stage and figuring out all the gear we will need - I'm wondering how many of you use a monitor?

We live in a three story house (laundry in the BASEMENT, of course!) and I plan on co-sleeping for the first few months.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts - also any favourite monitors (since i've just spent an hour researching them online; like everything else, there are too many!) [IMG]

we have a video monitor from summer infant. at first we only had one camera b/c they were in the same crib, but now we have 2 cameras b/c we separated them into 2 cribs in the same room. One camera is set on "A" and the other is set on "B", so when we have the handheld monitor on we just toggle back and forth between A and B to check on them. It is very helpful for us b/c our house is very chopped up. Our bedroom is on the second floor, their bedroom is on the main floor and the family room/laundry room is in the basement....it has really helped us not run up and down stairs all the time.

I would say get a monitor because there willbe times when you aren't in the same room as your babies and you'll want to hear what's going on. You may co-sleep at night but once they are napping longer times, you may want to leave the room and get things done while they sleep. You'll need a monitor for that and other situations over the next year or so.

As for brand/type- there are so many and we have tried most of them! Our house is about 3000sq ft in 3 stories and the FP Sound and Lights will not work well from bottom floor to top floor. We do have one of them between the tiwn's bedroom on the second floor and our den on the first floor and it works just fine there. If you or your neighbors have lots of cordless phones and wireless internet,be aware that monitors can be affected by them and vise versa. My favorite monitor is currently a fully digital monitor. It works throughout our house and out into the driveway or backuard. It also doesn't have a lot of static or noise from our cordless phones or wireless router. The brand is Summer Infant Inc., but I think Graco makes one too. When I say digital, I mean it has more range than the 2.4gHz monitors you see out there. (2.4gHz is the same frequency as most wireless routers, thus the issues with those.) A 900mHz won't interfere with wireless, but the range is not great. I have to say we have 3 different types of monitors going at all times in our house to cover all the rooms we need to have covered!

    Godd luck!

I recommend getting a monitor! We also have a 3-story house with about 4,500 sq feet and a monitor is a must in order for me to ever leave the area the babies are in. When they are napping, I take the receiver with me everywhere - to step outside for a minute to get the mail, clean other parts of the house, use the computer, etc etc. I also have another monitor in their playroom. I use the monitor in the playroom when they are in the exersaucer and jumperoo and I want to grab a basket of laundry to fold, run to the bathroom, etc.

We have the Angelcare monitors in the nursery and the Fisher Price Private Connection Dual Monitor in the playroom. We really like them both and would recommend either.

We have a digital monitor that works great! While we don't use ours at night because the babies' room is across the hall, we do use it at times when we're downstairs. I suggest getting one!
