I did buy them a pair once, but I ususally just put socks on them if we go anywhere, even church (that drives my mother up the wall!). We live in a pretty warm area, so I just really never bothered with putting shoes on them. I'm worried that when I finally do, they'll freak out on me. Anyone else not really bother with shoes?
The first time my girls wore shoes EVER was last friday. I took them to my work and wanted to show off how they walk. I put on their robeez for the first time and they did fine with it. At first they were looking at their feet like "What is this?!" But they walked fine in them. I think I read somewhere that its better for them not to wear shoes when they are little and learning to walk.
I don't think it is bad. I think if you at least have socks on them that is good enough until they are walking outside. The shoes are so expensive and they grow out of them so fast. Plus I have heard it is best for them to learn how to walk without shoes.
My boys didn't wear shoes their entire first year! Like you said, we live in a warm climate and I didn't really see the need. I bought them their first pair of shoes when it turned colder and they could walk.
We live in MN, and mine have never worn shoes either....there goes the warm climate excuse for me. Honestly, I just don't see a need. It's too cold here to have them outside for any period of time anyways! Suzi
Nope. My first four kiddos didnt wear shoes until they could walk, so the youngest was eleven months, the rest were over one!
I didn't put my girls in shoes until they started crawling outside. That was at about 13 months old. At that age and through age 3, they were always in shoes with flexible soles (Preschoolians). So many "baby" shoes have hard soles with no flexibility and that's not good for their feet. Shoes are meant for protecting feet from things on the ground so, if your babies aren't outside on the ground, then you shouldn't need shoes. Dax has one pair of Robeez like shoes that I got as a trade from a WAHM. I've put them over his socks on a few of the coldest days but he doesn't usually wear them.
:nea: Not bad at all, IMO. My two didn't wear shoes until they were 14 months old because that's when they started walking. I got the same "theories" from everyone, that when they would start walking and need shoes they won't wear them. :nea: They wore them and never freaked out once about them. I thihnk I read somewhere that it's actually better to wait until they are walking for shoes, better for their balance??
I just read the other day that it is best for pre and new walkers not to wear shoes. The article said that they prevent them from getting the true "feel" for the various parts of the foot and how they work against the ground beneath them. I like to pretend that this is why my boys never wear them. But honestly, I figure if I hate wearing shoes (except for when I want to look cute), then certainly they hate it too.
Nope! Our boys are 13 months and STILL have yet to wear a shoe! Our pedi told us socks are better and only wear shoes when necessary. That being said, we're going to the mall for shoes Friday as both boys are now walking and have a trip to the park coming up next week!
nah... the boys didn't wear shoes till they were 8 months, and the only reason was to keep their socks ON!
No shoes here. When they start walking and are walking outdoors, then I'll get them some - meanwhile, they don't need em. Don't worry, you're not a bad mom for not putting your boys in shoes! (Just saving $$$ on stuff you don't need!)
We are in the "no shoes" camp. I even went into a StrideRite outlet just to see what the prices will be when I HAVE to buy shoes and the salesman said no shoes until they start walking, then only outside to protect their feet. Erica.
I'm sending this to my mother! Thanks for the replies...I was starting to feel a little weird, but not anymore!!!
No shoes here either. I've worried about it myself, but you ladies are making me feel better about it. They have soft booties that they wear when we go outside. Now that they're walking pretty well, I've been thinking of getting them some shoes to wear outside, but its too cold to stay out any length of time. So I'll probably wait a couple more months. They'll be 15 months for their first pair of shoes if we get them in April!
We didn't start shoes until almost 14 months. They were walking well and the weather was changing so I got them young walker shoes for outdoor use. My guys LOVED their shoes from the beginning and no problems with walking in them at all (they wore Preschoolians then). If you want them to wear something to keep the socks on or to look "dressed up", then put them in Robeez or a similar soft-sole. We also got a lot of grief from the older generation (they were told by the experts of their time that children needed shoes for support so their feet develop properly...) but I tend to let things like that roll off.
Nope its not bad at all. Little feet arent made for shoes anyway. My girls have the prettiest little shoes, all to small now of course and not one day had they worn a pair of shoes. Okay granted it is summer here, but still nevr have. I tried once but the fight they put up is just not worth the effort. he he he
Nope, not bad at all. In fact, it's good! My girls wore shoes occasionally for decoration their first year and they wore Robeez a lot during the winter to keep their socks on. But we didn't actually buy shoes to wear all the time until they were walking and even now they only have socks or slippers on at home, never shoes. If I lived in a warm climate, my girls would have had nakie piggies ALL the time!!
Like everyone else said, barefoot is much better for them until they need shoes. I've put shoes on mine once for formal Christmas portraits.....and then, I did get sucked into buying the Robeez knock-offs at Target because they're SO cute (the pink and green Pooh design that I couldn't resist) -- but they've worn them exactly once, on a trip to the mall. I have little bunny slippers that they wear at home, LOL, just to keep their feet warm. But, they don't have soles at all, and mine aren't even close to pulling up yet -- when they need the traction, I'll let them go barefoot.
Mine wear the Robeez anytime i take them out. When they were smaller, Beau had some Nike's that he wore but he out grew them. Savannah had some small shos that resembled tennis shoes. I have a million pairs of shoes that i bought from a friend but i have yet to have them worn since they are bigger. I love the Robeez, they are pricey but if you get the right color it will go wtih just about anything... Savannah has one pair and then a friend sent Beau 3 pair from her son... I think they are worth the money, they help keep socks on too!
I've only put shoes on my girls once and they screamed their heads off. I did just order them shoes now that they are trying to walk! I dont' think it's bad at all!!
